As somebody who had to try and explain to those around me why it couldn't be a penalty, I concur! Nothing new, but never ceases to amaze me!so many people around me going ballistic why attwell didn't award a pen
it's a foul in the area, get a grip ref...(or words to that effect!). always amazes me how fans (and players / managers) dont know the absolute basics
I thought second time that De Bruyne should just have kicked the ball in the corner so it moved a bit. Burn wasn't watching the ball and wouldn't have known it was in play.so many people around me going ballistic why attwell didn't award a pen

Totally in accord with the "Guidelines for Match Officials" section though, which states as follows:I've not seen that before. YC for persistent offending at a corner before the ball was in play! Technically, I assume it goes down as unsporting behaviour.
(Emphasis added).Referees are reminded to make an early intervention and to deal firmly with holding offences, especially inside the penalty area at corner kicks and free kicks. To deal with these situations:
the referee must warn any player holding an opponent before the ball is in play
caution the player if the holding continues before the ball is in play
Hmmm... I somehow doubt a penalty would have been given if Rodri hadn't scored the third goal from a corner (Burn was holding Laporte for that).
