The Ref Stop

A-League Comms

The Ref Stop
So its only a caution if you do it twice.
It's practical refereeing.

Nip it in the bud fairly early with a verbal and a warning and get the players on your side.

It works really well in this situation because the opposing team isn't making much effort to take the kick really quickly, so the referee is able to intervene and move the player away, while giving him a warning for his conduct.

It's similar to when a player is about to take the throw-in from a mile away from where it should be. Proactive and communicate with them to get them to the right place, rather than reactive and punish without telling them where to be.

Football fans absolutely lap this up, it has almost 4,000 retweets on twitter and 150,000 views on youtube thus far.

The PGMOL are seriously missing a trick not exposing clips like this wherever they can, fans are ignorant of the process behind decisions.

I expect that the A-League is MUCH more sanitised than the Premier League however, they would have to sift through clips of our officials being called every name under the sun to find a suitable one.

American sports have been doing this with their officials (and players) for years. Even cricket has been doing it for several years and cricket is always slow to evolve. Football in Britain is still archaic in its implementation of innovation. Always the last to do it. Always focusing on the problems, finding every reason why we cant instead of reasons why we can.

Well, it maybe seems that way but without checking, England invented the red/yellow cards, and the worlds first penalty kick was awarded in Airdrie and the sport itself was invented in England, along with the first set of rules written up in London, the worlds first league competition was set up in England, first goal nets where used in UK, introduction of the diagonal system was by Stanley Rous, of England, and am sure the interweb or, Peter Grove, can tell us a hundred more !

So pedantic as it sounds, no where near correct to say Britain is always last....
In the ultimate case, of creating the sport, it was the first !!

I cannot argue with that, and when it comes to invention and innovation Britain's past is littered with examples, even in the sporting field. In the modern football world it's a different story. What I don't understand is how television controls modern day PL football, yet VAR and micced up refs are still not in place for the tv audience? The establishment clinging on to their last bit of power?

Its a valid point, the UK invented so much and was first at so much,,,
And now...:(

Either we slowed down, thinking we were it, or, other countries caught up and over took
