When players or managers go out its allways great when they go out in a way that sums up their career. Sir Alex Ferguson retires with a title, and Mark Van Bommel retires with a red card in his last game for vs Twente Actually this maybe a bit of a bad rap as a bit of research shows only 8 Red Cards for him, however 115 cautions shows more of a story. These are only from a quick google so maybe a bit more in reality. Mark Halsey (Photo credit: Wikipedia) This week Mark Halsey announced that he is retiring from Refereeing at the top-level. He deserves a lot of credit and respect for overcoming what he has to return back to the top flight. I hope that unlike Graham Poll and Jeff Winter he is planning to do something positive and still be involved. Unfortunately though according to the Daily Mail he only told the FA 24 hours before it was announced he was going to be a pundit on BT Sports new channel. He also told the FA he wouldn’t have a book coming out but this is being advertised on Amazon already. I hope this is just media digging dirt and he isn’t walking away. This summer has been a strange one for me, it’s the first time since 1994 that I have not started a season as an active referee. I am still registered and hope to do a few games, but I have not actually registered with a league. After last season taking the decision to step down to level 5 due to family and work commitments, I have changed jobs but further extended my family so time has not increased. That is not to say that I wont be involved at all. This season for me it will be assessing on the supply league and for the county, while also developing as a Tutor for the FA. Unfortunately I have not been able to be involved in the summer courses the county have been running as I don’t have the holiday to take the time of from...

Tuesday morning I woke with a sore and swollen right knee. No idea why or how. Unfortunately after a couple of hours it wasn't going to ease and I had to come of a game I was due to ref that night. By Thursday it hadn't eased and so of to the phsio. No sign of a sprain but a muscle that runs along my thigh between my hip and knee was tight. She manipulated it and stretched it and it eased. She gave me a series of stretches to do to ease it off. However she suggested it wouldn't be strong enough come Saturday. So another game lost. It's feeling better and I've another appointment this Thursday. So should be back in action next weekend.
Having just had a good sort out of a cupboard at home. I thought it was time to cut down on the amount of Referee shirts I had. I had pretty much enough to cover me for a game a day for 3 weeks! Really what is the need, so Ive put four of the better condition ones that I no longer need up on Ebay. The one with the Conference badge on was worn once. The reason for this was when I was lucky a few years ago to do a Conference Shield game on Setanta we were given that shirt to wear. Kit 1 Kit 2 Kit 3 Kit 4 Im not looking to get rich from this but it will go towards the re-registration of this site again as the Domain is up for renewal. Which leads me on to, if you ever find yourself needing to order anything from Amazon. Follow the...
This passed me by until I was reading this weekends Non League paper. Japan’s Masaaki Toma, has been in England taking charge of a variety of games as part of an exchange. Masaaki Toma refereed England vs Mexico a couple of years ago. While he has been in the UK, he has refereed a Conference North fixture between Solihull Moors and Boston United. He also took charge of Brentford vs Basingstoke in this weekends FA Cup. Link to story on Pro Referee and link to the BBC Continue reading...
