Where can I buy some that are actually card. I dont like these plastic ones or thin cards. Some sturdy card would be good.

Not sure card would hold up in some of the weather we get here in the UK.

if you look at what your colleagues are using, especially the more experienced ones, and give consideration to what you see on the tv, you might come to the conclusion that plastic/thin is the preferred weapon of choice, really no reason to be different....
