Vanishing spray

You didn't get the ball.
Level 7 Referee
Hi all. Quick one.

I've just bought a new match shirt off ebay, and the seller has (very kindly) provided 3 free 75ml cans of vanishing spray.

I understand this is a top level piece of equipment, however is there anything saying I shouldn't use it should I wish? Don't think I'll be pulling it out on a Sunday morning any time soon.

However if I get a game that means I want to use it, should I? And how much does 75ml of the stuff give you? 1 game? half a season?

Thanks.

It can be used only in competitions which allow it in their rules, which excludes grassroots and semi-pro football.

I’d did a youth tournament where they passed it out to refs as part of the goodies. Totally unnecessary, but what the heck. The kids got a kick out of it.

(For those who don’t know, I’min the US.)

A lad I know had his first National League Prem 4th man at the start of last season having only just been promoted to level 3.
He was working with a specialist AR that we both also know, who’s quite experienced at that level.
The referee went down injured with 15 mins to go, so my mate had to go in the middle for the last 15.
A player has gone down over near the touchline about 20 yards out.
The AR says on comms ‘no foul, no foul’ but my mate blows the whistle and gives the foul.
After the game the AR says ‘you know when I say no foul, no foul, it means it’s probably not a foul’. And my mate responded ‘I know, but I’ve got 15 minutes to use vanishing spray for the first time and I didn’t want to miss my chance’ 🤣

Don’t use it unless you’ve been told you can, certainly never in a competitive grassroots or semi pro fixture.

We’ve used it at ‘informal’ summer tournaments etc before as a gimmick, just be careful. I give my little lad mine and he uses it in the garden and the field when we go and play!
