I ref for a local youth club on a regular basis (4 teams). The league do not appoint refs at all. If i cannot ref their game i arrange for another referee to cover it as i don't want to let them down.
I received a message at 9am today (10am kick-off) saying the pitch was unfit. We've had no rain since last Monday so i'm suspicious.
I decided to look at the pitch as it's quite close (4 miles). Got there 9.30am and the pitch is totally fine. No issues.
I called the manager from the pitch but couldn't get an answer. They called off last week for an unfit pitch but admitted it was lack of players really. If a pitch is unfit you get to play the game later in the season. If you have lack of players you forfeit the game and get fined.
I've just spoken to the chairman of the club and he's appalled. He offered to send me the money but i refused as it's not the real point. It's the lies i hate and the fact i arrange refs for them when i cannot do the game. I could have reffed 2 other games but knocked them back. If i say i'm going to ref a game i can be relied upon 100%.
I've now messaged that team and told them to remove me as a contact.
