It happen to me twice this season at step 7. Carrying out the substitution on halfway line ( Referee as No NAR so CAR ). To find the player waiting to come on was not named on Team sheet. I did not allow substitution to go ahead.

I'm just wondering is this some think I should report?

As a minimum you need to write the subs names down, if you let someone on who wasn't named it could land you in all kinds of hot water.
In the adult league I do we get team sheets 15 mins before kick off, including named and numbered subs. Too late to write them down but at least in the book as reference.

In all of the youth leagues I do they don't even have team sheets , let alone share them with each other or me.

More often that not on my supply league, team sheets would be given to the senior AR about 15 minutes in. I had many an occasion where I’d have the team sheets in my pocket as I was on the line.

Sadly, not all parts of the country are the same!

As a minimum you need the substitutes' names in advance. No name, no game for the substitute.
Many leagues don't have team sheets, but that shouldn't be a problem.

On the basis I need the substitutes' names, it would follow that I also need the starting 11s names too? Having coached and or refereed in the same three youth competitions for five seasons, I've never once been asked (as a coach) or seen asked (by a referee) for players' names, the only exception being County Cups. I'll get in touch with the competition organisers because the last thing I want is to be the only referee asking for the info that no one else collects...

The law only requires that the names of substitutes be given to the referee before a match commences.
The competition organiser is responsible for determining if the starting 11/a full team sheet is required for their competition.

Thanks James. Working in sports regulation, it seems a bit of a nonsense to me that the LOTG require subs to be named to the ref but not the starting 9/11!

The reason for having the subs' names is that the match official has to check the name of each sub that comes on, whereas the names of the starting 11 are immaterial.
Whether a sub was or was not used can be important in terms of eligibility for league/Cup later matches, so important to have an accurate record.
