The Ref Stop

Junior/Youth So what is the right age to give Reds?

The Ref Stop
If a player just picks the ball up and it’s not SPA, trying to score in the opposing goal or DOGSO but the goal was scored , then what are you cautioning the player for ?
I've already answered that in my previous post mate surely?
If you decide to simply pick the ball up during open play (or deliberately handle it as described in the OP) then how is it not USB?

But a deliberate handball isn’t a yellow card in isolation.

Didn't say it was.
But in the scenario described (and others) it's cynical cheating and is USB.
In the scenario described, it didn’t sound like SPA, or any of the other scenarios where a deliberate handball is a caution. So not sure where you would be cautioning. I’ve never heard of cynical cheating - if we were handing out yellows for that then most players would be booked every game.

I have refereed youth football for about 10 years and I have never sent a player off for 2 yellows….
Had it just once in 3 years. U14s - first YC for SPA/pulling back and second for FT that wasn't a million from SFP. No complaints from anyone and apologetic coach (away team lost heads a little bit as getting humped - 7 YCs in total).

Wow... I sent off an U13 for OFFINABUS in my 7th game!

@RonnieM

Going by your profile pic I am assuming that you are refereeing in Scotland… if the match is 11 aside then the expectation would be that cards were issued in accordance with the Laws of the Game. In the situation you have described at the start of this topic if you didn’t send off you would be marked down by MGAP or SFA observer if either were present.

You are not wrong. Sent off a keeper for DOGSO in a friendly when I had a MGAP there... despite pleas from the opposition to just give a yellow.

C1 (USB).
Unspecified Behaviour or showing a lack of respect for the game.
It's not difficult really.
You can't just assume that because it's not DOGSO or SPA related then it absolutely can't be a caution.
Like I said, the events described in the OP sound like a caution for USB.

But ‘showing a lack of respect for the game’ isn’t a yellow card because you picked the ball up with your hands. It’s not difficult - you can’t just yellow card someone for picking the ball up if it isn’t SPA, or any of the other things.

We're obviously not going to agree on this Dylan so I'll not bother trying to convince you anymore. ;) :D
All I will say is that incidental HB as a natural part of the game (whether deemed deliberate or accidental by the referee) is not the same as a player simply thinking "Ah to Hell with the rules" and willfully picking the ball up with their hands during open play. ;)

When this happened many years ago (William Webb Ellis) a new game called Rugby Union was born . . .🏉
I suspect a free kick was also involved, although there is no record of a caution, but a caution should have happened for the act of USB . . .
