Simplified LOTG

IFAB wants consistent and simple LOTG. I have a solution. Keep Laws 1 to 6, 10 and 14. Get rid of the rest. Realistically we can get rid of half of laws 1 and 10 too. Games are more or less determined on penalties anyway so we may as well go straight to penalty shoot out.

At this rate EPL has doubled the goals scored by penalties.

Does anyone know the reason for the 50% jump in 06-07 season?

i love a bit of statistical analysis (i've put this into a nice excel table over lunch!)...

pens awarded per game this season is just over 4 standard deviations from the mean (goals per game is over 3 SD from the mean).

this season is a clear outlier for both metrics though the amount of goals scored could be down to other factors as well. you could attribute the number of pens given to several factors though the new handball laws have to be having a part to play.

it would be interesting to see a breakdown of why pens have been awarded but i'm not arsed enough to look into that!
