Check your County FA's requirements as to how many games you have to referee before applying for promotion - typically 20. Good luck with it.I'm a fairly new ref, been doing it for a couple months. Just wanting an indictation on how long it usually takes to be promoted to Cat 5 from 7? If I attend training and pass the fitness test, do I have a chance for next season?
Thanks. I’ve been told I would need to do the fitness test for Cat 5. Maybe it depends on association.Yeah. Get to training, get some games under your belt, try to arrange a couple of observations through your local association minor grade representative and attend association meetings. If you do all that you’ll be moved to category 5 or 6 within a year or so.
Cat 5 and 6 are essentially the same so don’t worry if you go to cat6. You can still do exactly the same games as a cat 5.
You don’t need to pass the fitness test until you’re looking to move to category 4 - development (cat4d)
Im in Scotland so I don’t think we have set out requirements for promotion.Check your County FA's requirements as to how many games you have to referee before applying for promotion - typically 20. Good luck with it.

OK - safest to check with the authority that will be managing the promotion process, in case you need anything before you start.Im in Scotland so I don’t think we have set out requirements for promotion.
Have a look at the SFA website - that sets out your 7 to 5 path (and is different from the system in England)Im in Scotland so I don’t think we have set out requirements for promotion.
