Premier League Matchweek 30-31 assignments

As things start again, it will be interesting to see how games involving European qualification and/or relegation are assigned. Right out of the chute today, Oliver gets a key match with Villa only out of the drop by goal difference and Sheffield United out of a Europa League position on goal difference (this is assuming Manchester City is still eligible for Europe, of course). Pawson has the Leicester-Watford game, which has major relegation implications for Watford. Atkinson takes charge of Brighton-Arsenal with Arsenal three points out of a European position and Brighton just two points inside of safety right now.

Oliver's Wolves-Bournemouth game in MW31 also carries huge implications for Europe and relegation. Taylor's Man United-Sheffield United has significant implications for both the Europa League and possibly the Champions League should Chelsea slip up in a game or two.

I believe Oliver and Taylor are both from the Manchester area, so any games in the Manchester/Sheffield/Liverpool areas would be good options. Moss is from Leeds, so the same for him. We've already mentioned Dean being from Liverpool. Not sure how many of the Select group live in London or the surrounding area.

I think everyone has to travel to get to Newcastle.

They can't use hotels so I would expect to see much less travelling, although given I think only two or three SG1 referees are South of Birmingham some will be inevitable as there is a real geographical balance.

That's right. I went back to the article about Oliver re-refereeing the 1970 FA Cup final, and he was in the Newcastle academy for a short time. I was thinking he was in the Manchester United academy for some odd reason.
