Just thought this was an interesting article...

Our future King is one of us... (a forum user, not a referee) 😆

Some of the heated debates all forums get in to... imagine if you're having a row with Prince William and you don't even know it!

And on the subject of the 3pm blackout... I support it. If you get rid of it, you'll have more channels charging extortionate rates, and as was it's original purpose, it encourages people to attend lower league matches.

If they brought in a streaming option in a similar way to NFL, this could help reduce costs. I’d get rid of Sky in a heartbeat if I could just pay a subscription to a streaming service for the games. WWE recently signed up with Netflix to stream all of their content live, including their PPV events. Similar to DaZN for boxing.

I’m not convinced the blackout makes people go to lower league games. If that were the case, dodgy boxes wouldn’t be as popular as they are

I'm not convinced it makes people go to lower league games, but I think it stops people deciding not to go... if that makes sense?

I get what you’re saying, but I can’t imagine it makes that much difference. I could well be wrong, but the 3pm shut out is pointless imo.

‘Greatest league in the world’ that can be watched live around the world…….apart from the country it’s based in

I think there’s a more than reasonable chance that televised 3pm kick offs would affect non-league attendances. Similar to why non-league attendances increase during international breaks. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen, as the EPL have shown that they are insular and not too concerned about the health of the rest of the pyramid.

During international breaks non-league gates certainly do increase, but this is generally because they run a ‘non-league’ day which is advertised, normally along with cheaper tickets. Similar to WSL, they get a higher gate during men’s international break.

It’s pretty backward that we can’t watch our own games live, yet practically every other country in the world can. You will get the odd person who will go to non-league due to no live PL games, but I’m not convinced is all that much.

But then there is also probably a very good reason we get crowds of 7000 plus at some tier 5 games when you’d struggle to find many places where a 5th tier match would get more than 1000.
I’d rather be on that side of the coin

Don’t think they do non-league days at every international break, agree that attendances are bigger when they do but they also increase without special days.

I’m sure it will happen at some point, perhaps as part of much overdue changes to the re distribution deal. That’s the best bargaining chip the pyramid have with the EPL, we’ll let you scrap the 3pm blackout but only if you pay us a significant percentage of the additional TV revenue you get from it.
