The Ref Stop

Missed stamp - Laverstock v Portland

The Ref Stop
Only the active AR has a chance of seeing that, depends whether he was looking at the offside line at the time or had followed the ball.

What were the afters, as the video doesn't show that? Only one player seems to react to it.

I disagree. The pushing and shoving started when the ball was in playing distance. A good referee keeps a trailing eye on it as it smells of trouble. It would not have been impractical for a couple of reasons
- ball was in the same general direction
- ball was with a player unchallenged. Nothing was going to happen there. In fact I go as far as saying the main focus should have been the trouble area and trailing eye on the ball.

I admit it is easier said than done.

Edit: on a different note, a charge of assault can easily proven to for the cowardly act which had nothing to do with playing sport. It just has to be reported to the poice.

Guess is depends where the referee was stood, but they are likely to be focused on the ball. Ironically, in the older system of a wide diagonal they would have had a much better chance of seeing it, but I'd guess the referee was very narrow and just couldn't see it.

I know you aren't in England, but there is zero chance the police would pursue this. They don't have the resource to investigate much more serious assaults than this, they would rule it isn't in the public interest to go after it.

Can this video footage not be used as evidence for a retrospective charge of violent conduct against the player?

They have to raise a charge, give them a set period to respond to the charge, and if they deny the charge there would need to be a hearing arranged. All of that can take weeks, potentially running into months.
Do they also need to get the match officials view? If he saw it and deemed not an offence then that can't be charged can it?

Not sure outside of the professional game. Very much doubt any referee would watch that video and say that they saw the stamp but didn't deem it an offence though.

On a different note, note the effort that has been put into the X post in OP to make the tone respectful ans diplomatic.

It would be nice to see the same effort when players/clubs post about refereee decisions 🙂

I've refereed this side in various forms (Sundays, Res etc) and they're a bloody pain in the arse on the pitch.

But the club itself are a credit to the community and I noted they hadn't gone in at the officials despite, arguably, being entitled to be a bit miffed.

Didn't recognise their home ground due the lack of passing icebergs, whales, groundstaff in canoes etc. 🤿
