Found this on the Guardian it is a paragraph from the roma atalanta match report.
Well, actually what happened first is that the Slovenian got booked for diving: the referee Gianpaolo Calvarese believing that he had taken a dive on his way into the area. That decision was corrected after a VAR review, replays showing that Kolarov had tripped Ilicic.
My question is , the player who received a yellow is it then cancelled? It would make sense if it did but can that be done?

My knowledge of VAR process is limited but surely it has to be rescinded. Bizarre situation if it's not.
 
@WilliamD william has hit the nail on the head. Doesnt need VAR. If you caution then your AR gives you some other info that means the caution ks wrong you rescind it.
