Open Age GK kicks ball out for a corner from a Goal Kick

Away team gets a goal kick, which he lines up on left hand side of the six yard box. Right back drops deep for a short one. GK plays it across the goal, but shanks his kick and it goes out of play for a corner half way between edge of 18 and the corner flag.

Cue a significant level of embarassment from the goal keeper and the team manager going purple on the sideline.

Had it once before on a really windy day where the ball left the area and then got blown back for a corner, but have never seen it in these circumstances.

Just as funny as GK picking up a ball from a throw in. The funny thing was he didn't know why I blew for an IDFK? Still brings a smile to my face

Depends on the situation, I get my exams with these type of questions. If said thing happens, but the ball crosses the line while it is still inside of the penalty area, the goal kick should be retaken. Else, it would indeed be a corner.
