The Ref Stop

Giving yellows

I don't mean to sound cynical, but for perspective, 6 days ago I had a game. SinBinned 2 lads, sent the skipper off for OFFINABUS and cautioned a sub for dissent. Did it improve behaviour? No. I was chased off the pitch, had a bottle kicked at me and the player responsible for both had to be physically restrained by multiple teammates while I locked myself in my dressing room.
It has unfortunately got to a point where reading things like this do not surprise me anymore. Hope they sanction whoever was responsible. Bottles? Speaking from experience that they hurt if kicked with force and hit you on the cheek bone.

Won't speak out too much about the sanctioning process etc., as it's all under investigation. It's the second time I've been attacked this season (was slapped, threatened and squared up to etc.). The charges raised have negatively surprised me, but they're still being charged, so we'll see.

And yes, a bottle would bloody hurt, luckily it just whizzed past me! The joys, eh?

Tell me about it  The only thing that stopped me quitting earlier this season was the fact I had a family 'bet' to live up to. My family reckoned I'd quit after a few weeks because I'm known for not fully committing myself to things. Couldn't prove them right 😂

Hey, whatever skin you have in the game, keeping going is something. I refuse to let the actions of a very small minority stop me doing something I love. It's definitely affected me now it's happened twice - but ultimately, the way I win, in my eyes, is by going out there and doing something I enjoy, and think I'm decent enough at.

Can't fault my CFA either. When I hear a lot of stories of RDOs being unresponsive etc., can say for certain my CFA is incredibly well run from what I see of the Refereeing side.

If we're talking Manchester FA, then I completely agree - can't fault them in that regard.

I'm glad to see that you're sticking with it and not letting that behaviour deter you from the thing that we all love. FWIW, having seen you referee personally, you're a top official. Keep going mate.

Slight change of angle. Not intending to air my dirty laundry here. In the last 4-5 years, the 'actions' of some administrators of the game, football or refereeing, at all leves, have been more of a deterrent for me to continue refereeing than anything I see or hear on the field. Anyone else on the same boat?

No, but I'm not far off. My RDO was really helpful but his assistant is the most useless person. She basically told me to suck it up and stop wasting their time. Didn't ask her for help again.

Depends which way I look at it from. From a refereeing perspective, I can't fault my RDO, or any of my Appointment Officers (Myself being one of them 🤣) as they have always been great with me, especially this season as I went for my 7-6.

My perspective as a Management Committee member, for both a Club and League, is less than impressive. But thankfully this doesn't push me away from refereeing in the slightest.
