Afternoon all,

I have been appointed as an assistant on a step five game this Saturday and was wondering what to expect or if there is anything I can do to prepare myself?

Thanks in advance!

Probably need some more info...
How many lines have you done before? At what level of the game (i.e. have you done step 6, youth final, Sunday league final?)

The ref should make contact with you prior to the game with specific details of what they want.

Generally: Arrive 60-90mins prior to KO. Wear smart tracksuit to the ground, to be changed into match kit before Kick Off. Might be expected to stay for post match hospitality, and more likely than not, have a tea with the chairperson/secretary etc. before KO.

You will walk out from the dressing rooms/tunnel and do a respect handshake before KO.

These are some of the general points about how Step 5 games may differ to others. I'm sure James, myself and others will equally help if this is one of your first lines

I have done say 30 lines but none at this level unless counting U18 academy stuff. I also middled three step five pre season games. I guess what I would like to know is more around the day as a whole. If that makes any more sense :)

I think i was wondering if you had done some step 6, as it you have then there won't be large differences.

Legs assume not. The referee will likely want you there between 60-90 mins before. Most clubs at this level will prepare a post match meal so expect to leave a little later. Generally ok arrival will have a coffee, a chat, some pre-match instruction, and then out for a warm up.

Ref the game.

Showers will be available afterwards.

Eat

Go home.

. . . and listen carefully to the Observer's advice . . .
Enjoy the game.

My wife just asked me if I was listening to her. I thought, that's a weird way to start a conversation!
