Surely as a player you are aware that an injury may occur and if unlucky it will happen to you. I can understand why assaults punches etc could have legal ramifications but a misstimed tackle, even if out of control and dangerous should be taken to the courts. At grass roots levels 9 times out of 10 it is the player who has just overestimated his ability. As for compensation if I was playing I would have asickness insurance so if I did get injured I wouldn't be too out of pocket.
