In a game yesterday blue team attacking right hand side about 40 yards from goal, a pass down the wing which was going to a team mate and the ball hit me and continued to the intended player.

I stopped play and awarded a drop ball.

Was i right to stop the play as although the ball changed direction sightly the intended pass still found the player it was originally aimed at.

Also was a contested drop ball the right re-start as it seems a bit harsh on the attacking team, should it have just been dropped to them to re-start play.

No, you should not have stopped play - possession didn't change and (at least as I read your description) a promising attack was not started.

Also even if you did decide on a dropped ball it must not be a contested one - there's no such thing any more.

Think you might need to brush up on the new laws. Can understand why you might stop play when it hit you, even though you should really play on unless possession changes, but there's no way you should ever be awarding contested dropped balls again.
