Awkward subject but I'm sure it's happened plenty times before and will again. So recently a couple of the local leagues I officiate on have had an increase in available referees and improvement in quality.
As a result, the "here from day 1" referees, aren't getting the middles they automatically once did purely based on the fact there was no one else, and now they have to earn a middle with performances. To which a couple aren't as up to scratch as they thought they were. Anyway, it is clear a few aren't happy and rather than improve their own game, are showing a little bitterness towards people taking their place.
Recently had a game where one individual, who was senior AR, I could hear undermining me from the side when talking to a dugout. I dont mean like in a get the dugout on side light hearted sort of way. There were also 2 throw in incidents in my area to which I strongly signalled down low my decision. He reluctantly went with me but then proceeded to shake his head walking back down the line.
Any pieces of advice? I'm not remotely a confrontational person and it doesn't sit great with me the thought of speaking to the appointment officer about this. In local leagues you need to work with the same referees often. It just all felt like we weren't a team and certainly don't feel like he would have my back. Game management can be tough at times anyway without a referee encouraging / giving ammo to benches.
