So they ran and hide they clearly didn’t realise what they signed up for stop trolling by defending the indefensible.The people striking have voices and cards, and I’m sure they’ve used them. Unfortunately things get to a stage where they are no longer of use.

I am not sure how I feel about strikes as an effective measure. However, I absolutely feel sympathy for, and solidarity with, a group of referees who feel this is a necessary measure. They have my support because clearly nothing else has worked to date. We deserve to feel and be safe in pursuing this pastime and whilst resilience, peer support and skill development can all help improve our capacity to respond to dangerous situations and prolonged abuse it can’t be on referees to lead the change in game culture that is so desperately needed in my opinion.
