Good 10 mins from Aus. Not tested the sticksman yet. Ooh big scissors tackle in the box there... ref well placed, clear, no foul...

Surely the bods in the box wouldn't ask for a review if they didn't think it was a pen...

He's given it!

Ridiculous pen.

Jumping that high... and then trying to get his arm out of the way... from 75cm away... ridiculous... IMHO of course...

You don't get to challenge a header with your arms sticking right out and in the path of where the header is going. Defender had the responsibility to keep his arms closer to his body.

The key criteria for handball is surely still: was it deliberate.
Then we can look at the detail.

There is no way this is a deliberate handball. Weird arm position is the only criterion in the "pen" box - everything says clearly no pen. That's just daft IMHO.

Worst decision yet. Unbelievable that it was deemed a clear & obvious error and unthinkable that the referee agreed

They both jumped with arms out - that's how you jump. They are both not perfectly balanced. That's natural. That's football.
Is that is really a handball offence according to IFAB etc.?

We use arm position as one thing to consider. Defenders need to keep their arm down. You can't challenge a header with your arms sticking right out from your body like that. Just makes him a lot wider if he's allowed to do that. IF that's not a foul then you'd be doing this every time as a defender - and blocking the head from the opponent.

You don't jump with your arm sticking 90 degrees out from your body....

And if this was a fair handling then you'd never jump with your arms close to your body again!

Well VAR has now evened out for Aus. The pen against us v France shouldn't have been reviewed either.
