Surely there is a case here of extenuating circumstances, what's the point in pontificating that you are strong on hate chants then do nothing about it when someone reports / highlights that its happening?? Surely he can appeal higher up the chain!!

The correct procedure is, players/coach inform ref there is an issue, thats their involvement complete.
The referee is then responsible for the next course of action
If the ref is found to have called it wrong, he in turn will answer to his superiors
Job done.

Could make the same argument for retaliation after a player has been cleaned up.
The player is responsible for his own actions.

Just on that, I caught some of the "closed door" game on Sunday and the San Siro was constant chanting of the schoolkids, who Inter managed to persuade authorities should be allowed in.
Yes the racist chanting and related conversations with the referee etc were poorly dealt with on the day, but the two bookings were for USB and dissent. Totally irrelevant and correct in line with the LOTG. If he’s been racially abused, that doesn’t give licence to break the rules. Correct decision imo
