Because some cricket match or other has to take 'priority' in the first month of the season, because its a public pitch

Thats shocking! I would say my game was booked 1st so that take priority over a poxy cricket match

There's quite a few grounds like that around the leagues. I remember Stourbridge and Biddulph/Knypersley Victoria used to have three-sided grounds that couldn't have a fixture in the first month of the season because of the cricket.
