Do They Forget What It’s All About?

Relatively easy game to ref yesterday, despite the fact it was a local U13 derby, in fact none of these incidents are from the match itself, so this might not be the right place to put it. More so to do with the behaviour of the away manager, and the fact people seem to forget that an U13 league...

    Strange Kick Off

Then why don’t we see more teams try it? Seems a bit pointless to pass it back to a player to “boot it” when they could just do it themselves. A lack of knowledge of the laws or just tradition?

    Strange Kick Off

Never seen a kick off like it! Home team for every kick off (which was quite a lot, was a high scoring game) would just take a run up and boot the ball. Their player had a great kick on them, and kept putting it in the opposition corner every time. Away team would go mental, claiming he can’t...

    Der Klassiker

"You give a referee that has match fixed before, the biggest game in Germany, what do you expect?" Incredible words from Jude Bellingham after the Der Klassiker. Did anyone watch the game? What’s the incident that caused this?

    Penalty Own Goal

Let’s face it, this will never happen. “The player taking the penalty must kick the ball forward.” It would take an extraordinary gust of wind for a penalty to end up in a players own net. So this is obviously not a real question. It’s not really even a hypothetical question either because...

    Low Card Count

Thanks for the responses everyone. It tends to be low level lower age group games I do so I think that makes sense. I’ll keep you all updated when I finally get that yellow card out. Cannot wait. Has given me idea for a new thread discussion has this

    Low Card Count

So far I’ve only been doing youth games and haven’t done too many (started last season so everything’s been interrupted, once I get a string of games together and build confidence I might consider a change) Still I feel my card count is very low. As in, it’s 0. After 20 games. I know youth...

    Hypothetically Speaking...

Sorry to revive my old (very unlikely and strange hypothetical) question, but this brings me to a question. A DFK and IFK can both be DOGSO offences right? So obviously an own goal that’s going on could be stopped by a handball on the line, in which case, DOGSO easy. But another type of...

Where in the Laws Does It Say About

Really? I get obstruction shouts a lot, and I’ve seen it happen a lot when the ball goes underneath the player as both a player and spectator. In over 10 years playing junior football it was given as “obstruction” every time (and once we had got given penalty for it. The same season we had a...

Where in the Laws Does It Say About

Cheers on pointing me for both laws. Like an encyclopaedia! Good shout on the first one. It’s one of those always given in football for “obstruction” but yeh “playing in dangerous manner” is perfect. The players won’t challenge for the ball in fear of endangering the opponent.

Where in the Laws Does It Say About

    (1) Obstruction - I have played in a lot of games where a player, on the floor for some reason, uses his legs to trap the ball between them to try keep the ball. Every opposition player shouts “obstruction”, IDFK is given. But where in the laws does it say anything about this? Is it actually a...

Greatest Game In Football History: Blood, Elbows and a Riot

I’ll sympathise with refs, I think that happens naturally. We know better than anyone how hard it is to do what we do. But refs are looked at as a whole. The actions of the idiot from the original post and the idiot in your story reflect badly on all referees. Especially when it’s a qualified...

    Craziest Appeal You’ve Seen

Listen I get U11s whining gets annoying to ref but we aren’t allowed to do that! I..I think?

    Craziest Appeal You’ve Seen

“Why didn’t you play advantage there” “If you guys wanted it to be advantage surely it shows there was none” It’s one of those ref classics I think every ref has experienced. As for your question I answered that in my post about the appeals for onside because the keeper saved it. I do always...

    2 soft yellows?

But that doesn’t make sense. I am really sorry, because I can see where you’re coming from, and I don’t want to jump on the Standard hate train but your comments aren’t adding up That doesn’t make sense, that’s nothing to do with sarcastic. Maybe if English isn’t your first language and you’re...

    2 soft yellows?

Teammate sent off, player cautioned, penalty missed, straight down the other end they scored. I don’t think it’s a massive stretch for that to be dissent. Especially when Standard says “sarcastically kicked the ball” and it was right in front of him. Do you think that’s a case of delaying...

Greatest Game In Football History: Blood, Elbows and a Riot

I spoke with my old refereeing mentor today and he bought up this game. I’ve DMed you just to make sure you’re the same county FA as me cos if you are, this is the exact same game. I mean, the similarities are too close anyway. He said the reports of the game were quite interesting, as they...

    Am I going crazy?

That’s why I think it created so much self doubt. I was so sure people would know this law that the large amount of backlash confused me to the point my only thought was “I must have the law wrong.” I mean, maybe the argument was that the player was onside when the ball was struck but he was...

An awkward start for Dr Felix Brych. Game kick off delayed due to a problem with his communication device. Shame, he’s one of my favourite refs
