    Junior/Youth No red card?

And had that been the referee's explanation then I would accept it. But the referee clearly said that the reason he didn't send the GK off was because he felt bad about sending off a 14 year old. That's not an acceptable reason to not make the correct decision.

    Club Marks

I just gave you an example. They don't know that the onus is on the defending team to give 10 yards rather than the attacking team to ask for 10 yards at a free kick.

    Club Marks

No, come on. They don't know the Laws. Here's an example: I tell defender A to move away from the spot of the free kick. "He didn't ask for 10, ref." Nor does he have to. The Laws clearly indicate that you have to give him 10. They don't know the Laws. There is a remarkable difference between...

    Club Marks

Club marks have got to be the stupidest thing I've ever come across. If we're being honest, players don't know the first thing about the Laws, so how on earth are they supposed to appropriately grade a referee's performance?

    Dissent

I would caution the coach for dissent. At local level, I my tolerance for coach behaviour is significantly lower than it is at higher levels.

    Delaying the Restart

And, conversely, they know how to not be completely reckless by mistake. I've found that the higher the level, the less you can say "that was definitely an accident." This is also why I bristle when folks on the tele say the professionals weren't being deliberate when they do something rash.

    Delaying the Restart

This is what happens when you start to officiate smarter, more strategic players.

    The Great Flag Debate

I've never used the Touchline or SignalBip. Can you not turn the beep off on the Touchline flags? It's not the biggest thing in the world since I don't mind having the beep go off at all (it can even be used to good effect to have the beep going).

    The Great Flag Debate

I've seen Hassan's comparative assessment of the three major brands of beep flags, and I'm looking for more information from anyone who has used any of them or, ideally, all three of them. Between Touchline, SignalBip, and Ervocom, which is better? Is the price difference justified in the...

Where do you keep your cards, book etc ?

My book is in my (right, when there are two) shirt pocket with a yellow and red card in it. Another yellow is in my right short pocket, and red in my (right) back short pocket. There is no definite way to do it but it is important to do it the same way every time lest you change things up and...

    Handball Summary

I'm not sure I understand where the confusion is coming from. It is not a handball offense if the player plays the ball and it rebounds directly and hits their arm, even if their arm is in an unnatural position.

    problem with linesman

That's about the sum of my pregame too. Sometimes I'll make small talk "How's your season going? Great, well, good luck today. Heads or tails?" Captains aren't arsed about what I say before the match anyway.

    Talking to managers about parents

If a kid who is also a player tells me to shut up and let's play, he gets a booking. That drives the point home well enough.

    Undershirt colour

Aye, but what's the point of stating the fact? And what will it gain you--and with whom?

    Undershirt colour

And, in my experience, fighting the system is a losing battle so you're better off to just accept it and find another hill to die on.

    Undershirt colour

Because the requirements and expectations at Step 5/6 are different from Football League. To put it crassly: at 5/6, they are testing your actual knowledge of the LOTG, because they can't take it for granted that those officials know the laws; at FL level, they assume you know the Laws and want...

    Too Windy

When the wind is that bad, and the ball won't stay still for free kicks and goal kicks, I tend to run to position with my back to the ball. Did it move before he kicked it? Not sure, I was running to be in position near the drop zone.

    Talking to managers about parents

Sorry, they're planning on making children responsible for controlling the actions of their adult authorities? That's absolutely backwards and it smacks of a desperate attempt to avoid sending off a coach. If coaches misbehave, punish them with as much force as the Laws allow. I have no time for...
