    Importance of corner flags

I centered 3 games solo two weeks ago on a hay field that hadn't been lined in weeks. Couldn't see the lines unless you were on top of them. We had no flags in the first game, and it was impossible to even have an idea if the ball was off the pitch. 2nd game, coach had some cones we put out...

    Favorite Ref Items?

After you asked this - prior to, I had used golf pencils - I bought some of these pencils with clips. Ran my first game with it - much nicer than the golf pencil - just clip it to my write-on card and in the pocket it goes.

    Favorite Ref Items?

My sanction cards are a bit smaller than the writeon card - so it's easy to pull the correct card out of my pocket. I keep the red in my back pocket, so that would never get pulled in error! It would be easy to put the score card in it's own pocket, but I like having both in the left breast...

    Favorite Ref Items?

I just keep a pencil in my side pocket. score card goes in with my yellow. In our local leagues, you get a roster/sub list, so I have those in another pocket too. Re: the finger grip - I am a huge fan of not having to hold on to the whistle all the time.

    Favorite Ref Items?

Men in Black mentioned his notepad. I use the write on cards for my games - easy to pull from your pocket, and you can write on them in the rain with pencil, as they're waterproof. Like MiB does on his pad, I prefill the info on the cards before I head out to my games. After the game report...

    Favorite Ref Items?

Thought I'd ask what other referees would call your favorite items in your bag. I'm pretty well set on my bag of stuff, but always interested in what others might list as their favorite items that they carry. My first is the Fox40 whistle with finger grip - I used to use a Fox 40 on a wrist...

    Substitution Confusion

One of our local leagues allow subs on any stoppage with referee permission. As they also allow unlimited subs, it can certainly be used to slow the game down if not kept in check by the referee. It's pretty easy to get a feel for when it's acceptable or not to sub on a corner, or throw in...

Does anyone use the guide that is stickied?

Did you end up using the workout guide? I just looked at it this week, and decided to try it out - as I read it, you just choose one of the sessions (many times two different runs) each day you work out. Couple that with a proper warm up, and some other strength/core training, and you'll...

    Worst games...

I enjoy the younger games, as it offers a chance to interact/educate while I ref. When I coached, I often saw newer referees that were nearly silent on the field - and the kids often had no idea what the referees were calling or why - even on simple things like throw-ins. Now that I referee...
