Looks like replacement refs will be used when the season starts in four days.
I can't figure out how this isn't a PK on Dubrovka. He's missed the ball and then raised his arm up and tripped the attacker who could still score on an empty goal.
Curious to see what some think after they catch MOTD. First the chalked off goal for a foul on the Fulham GK and then the late PK not given to Fulham for handball.
I'm sorry but a PL ref shouldn't need VAR to get that red card right. It checks pretty much every box for SFP [From behind, studs exposed, leg locked, contact high, no/limited opportunity to play the ball, high speed...]

Here's one straight out of the "Laws of the Game test".
For context the player was shown a 2YC. He was also the same player who cleared the ball out for a corner which adds another wrinkle.
We had the first rejected on field review since the 20-21 season in the PL today. Oliver stuck with his decision for a PK. I'm still sticking to my guns that the defenders arms were naturally placed for what he was doing. The ball strikes his left hand and the force of the ball makes it flail...

So apparently if a defender pushes an attacker into the GK who is about to head the ball, the outcome is a foul on the GK. Okay.
Thoughts on this not being called a foul/PK? I'm not sure if the first one from McTominay was inside the penalty area, so I'm not going to go on a VAR rant at the moment. But how does Andy Madley not call the first one as a foul when he has a perfect view of it?

Another crazy fun VAR moment from Argentina. Also the myths relating to keepers handling the ball throughout the comments there are fascinating. Some think it matters where the keepers feet was and some think it must be an automatic red card.
If you don't know FIFA has been working on a technology that tracks the players including their limbs to help automate the offside process with var. Which means the VAR will no longer have to draw the lines it will all be done automatically and it is now being tested at the club World Cup with...

Ref ends up getting this 100% correct too. White gets the FK and red gets a caution for SPA when he gets up from rolling. Too bad the attacker lost his head.
