There is no offside if a player receives a ball directly from a goal kick. Does this mean a player from the same team can stand beyond the other teams defence in the other half of the field and recieve the ball from his own keeper direct from that goalkick?

Just wanted to clarify. If DOGSO committed inside the penalty area and the offending player makes no attempt to play the ball is this a Red card and Penalty. Asking as a young referee awarded a penalty this week and gave a yellow card.
