    Socially distanced checking of equipment

I fully understand why its done and the ceremonial nature of it. Its just a bit odd that theres no expectation to check the studs of the 22 starting players, but an absolute expectation to check the substitutes studs. Its bizarre to those of us who are former players. For those who are...

    Socially distanced checking of equipment

As a very young kid you'd get the odd older ref who would line you all up and run their hands across every players studs. I played senior football twice a week from the age of 16-33 and never had a single stud check, apart from if I was coming on as sub and the AR asked us to lift our boots. I...

    Masks

Had a game this morning. Excellent game to referee but 0 covid initiatives in place.

    Post Lockdown games

This was just a low level match at a local private facility. But its probably the first match anyone could attend for ages and there were alot watching with a beer or two. It was all pretty good natured and no problems from a refereeing perspective. There wasnt a single covid precaution in...

    Post Lockdown games

Did my first game tonight. A local derby played in a relatively friendly spirit. Good to get back out there. Tables set up with hand sanitiser were never used. Quite a large crowd turned up to watch and there wasn't much social distancing in place. It was almost as if people saw the occasion as...

    Masks

Wearing a mask whilst running for 90 mins is not comfortable or practical. Its not expected and its not going to happen. Its extremely unlikely that you will catch covid during a football match. There is a very small possibility that you will of course, and if that worries you then don't...

    DBS

Ok Brian, thanks for clearing that up. I've never renewed so I assume I contact the CFA for the DBS and look for a safeguarding course online?

    Post Lockdown games

Its looking increasingly likely that the GB success in 2012 is not due to marginal gains but that's for another forum! In cricket we sanitise every 6 overs. Theres just an acceptance that the risk is really small from cross contamination via a ball. Its not something to unduly worry about imo...

    DBS

Still showing as November 2020 expiry dates for DBS and safeguarding. No extended date, not as of yet anyway

    DBS

My DBS is up before the end of the year. Do I source my own DBS checks and just send the certificate and send it to the CFA or do I have to go through the CFA and use a preferred provider? Thanks in advance

Handling the ball - the way forward

In the opinion of the referee, was the handball offence deliberate? Thats it, no further explanation of the law, no guidance, no nonsense about touching your hand/arm before a goal is scored etc. A simple one sentence law

    “Imminent”

Walked my dog past a match on Wednesday night. Looked like an Aintree squad friendly, but there wa a referee there. Crazy for him to take a match during a period where matches are clearly not allowed

    “Imminent”

Similar to the model adopted in cricket id imagine. Like you say, no changing rooms, no shared drinks, sanitising at half time (potentially half way through each half too? Just a guess).

    Pre-Season Fitness Plans

I'm off to Spain on the first week of the scheduled start of the season so my fitness will involve San Miguel and restaurant food for a week :D Prior to that my fitness has involved lots of walking the dog but not a lot else (although I'm walking 10km a day at least). Gyms opening next weekend...

    players equipment

Women's Northern Premier League match last September (I'm senior AR). Ref asks me to bang on the changing room door of the home team as they're running late and check their jewellery as they leave the changing rooms, standard stuff. Every single player had jewellrey on, most had multiple items...

    Your moment of the season

When I was a player it was win at all costs, enjoyment was just a given, I was playing football with my mates! Refereeing isn't necessarily the same. But for me it certainly has been enjoyable since I took up the whistle. I enjoy it more now I'm reffing a slightly higher standard.

When a ref on promotion needs to notify the RDO she has a match

Similar to this. We were given a spreadsheet at the start of the season to fill in as we go. It was pointed out to us that we weren't to alter the format in any way (clearly there had been some issues previously with people reformatting it). I kept my own record of all games that I did and the...
