    COVID-19 and Scottish Football

The power of RustyRef . . . the SFA have an emergency meeting today to introduce new rules and punishments!

    Socially distanced checking of equipment

Correct, of course . . . I was making the point that the teams' equipment is checked in addition to later checks on subs. Cheers.

    Socially distanced checking of equipment

At those levels the footwear and jewellery check is part of the ARs' pre-match duties in England. Usually done in dressing rooms or as players leave the dressing rooms.

    Passback restart

Only if the free kick is taken and goes directly into the goal (so not applicable in the event of ifk pass/another attacker shoots into goal)

    Passback restart

Although the players should realise it's indirect (because it would be a penalty if not) they will probably not do so immediately. Why would you require a retake because the GK and defenders are not ready?

    Passback restart

Had there been an observer at the match, the post-match discussion would have been interesting! Once the attacking team are ready to take the free kick, there is no reason to delay it while the defence get organised . . . and if it was 8 yards from goal that process would be a long one, with...

    Refereeing guidance

I have to confess the difference between "too busy" and "over-crowded" escapes me🤭 I live half a mile from the South coast so have seen at first hand a total disregard for others - distancing especially - on and near local beaches. My worry is that is what we can expect from supporters when...

    Post Lockdown games

This also raises the question around supporters from a lockdown area hoping to travel to games outside that area, with all that entails. Not easy for the Government or The FA or CFA's (some of whom are still using the furlough scheme for many staff)

    Post Lockdown games

The FA guidance to referees specifies that the laws of the game apply, so IMO a dropped ball should be a dropped ball. Taking your argument forward, would you suggest a kick-in instead of a throw-in to avoid the need for a player to handle the ball?

    Refereeing guidance

Sadly, Brian, your beach buddies were the exception. As an example, Bournemouth had extra police and council officials having to close access to some beaches by lunchtime because of over-crowding. The point I was making was that a lot of people are now ignoring the law, which does not bode well...

    What to turn up in?

Why not call the referee to agree an approach appropriate for the ground in question and travel time, etc.? Tracksuit over kit sounds favourite! Enjoy the game.

    Combined counties query

You need to address that question to the CCL Appointments Officer, as he will have a referees list for youth games.

    Refereeing guidance

Looking at the pictures of thousands of people cheek by jowel on beaches yesterday, an early September start has to be doubtful.

    Next Season/ Pre season

The leagues and County FA's will decide when they start the next season . . . my local Supply League have announced 05 September, for example. Each youth league will make decisions and introduce a set of Covid rules to suit the local situation. Start dates vary anyway around the country...

    Friendlies on WGS?

Make sure you have registered for 2020/2021 before doing any games, BrumRef. Most CFA's are reminding referees to do so, even though their RDO may still be furloughed. Enjoy the new season.

Handling the ball - the way forward

Many thanks for some thought-provoking responses, and for handling failure to agree in an adult manner(!) I will send a summary of the expressed views to our IFAB representative, in the hope they can be considered for 2021-2022 inclusion. Stay safe, and get fit!
