    England v Uruguay

Not seeing it myself. For all Lee Dixon banging on about that being red in the Premier League, I very much doubt it. I know we do t take pundits into account but there’d be a few going on about how harsh it is etc. And had that been an England player, and he’d been sent off, we’d never hear...

How many matches have you refereed this season?

    Likewise here.

    EFL Cup Final

Controlled it very well, and stopped it from boiling over. I might’ve gone a different colour card for Kepa’s foul second half - a good case for DOGSO, but in that sense it balanced out as he created the first goal.

    Wrexham- Chelsea

Very good review for the red card. It’s more than a tactical foul - high, fast and not an attempt to play the ball. I needed a replay to see it as I thought it was just a spoiler foul on first look, but clearly not.

    Burnley v Brentford

As soon as the ball goes in Sam Barrott is running in for that melee exactly as you say you described it. But too many skip over it or wilfully ignore it, because it doesn’t sell. As for the incident with Barnes, he knows what he’s doing. He’s shaped himself to control the ball - there’s a...

    City v Newcastle

Not to be facetious but haven’t defenders being doing this forever? Except we’ve called it nudging, bumping, and jostling?

    Aston Villa v Newcastle

AR on this near side as the camera looks, is having a nightmare tonight. Glad the goal came from that free kick as it’s a bit of a bail out but that was so poor. First one understandable, second one no way. Needs to focus and put it out of his mind. Cant drop referee in it a third time.

    Aston Villa v Newcastle

Now seeing the offside goal there is an attacker in his eye line. Camera angle is deceiving - from the elevated view we can see it clearly. Be interesting to see a ground level shot. But we won’t because that doesn’t sell like Alan Shearer ranting.

    Aston Villa v Newcastle

No issues with the Bizot red card. If you’re thinking DOGSO, fine. 1 defender vs three attackers from the next play of the ball which would’ve been a pass to an attacker who could shoot. Challenge is equally not an attempt to play the ball.

6-week ban non-submittal of red card

My earlier point now confirmed - nothing to do with losing referees and everything to do with playing.

6-week ban non-submittal of red card

Maybe I’m more of a disciplinarian, but failing to send in cards lets down everyone else as players seem to think they can get away with it. But my other key takeaway from this is that the club seem to be using the referee angle to whinge and whine about not being able to use the offender as a...

    Newcastle v Brentford

1: It’s a minor holding offence and never enough to cause his legs to be collapse like that. If Trippier had sustained his holding rather than grabbing and letting go almost immediately then I’m saying something different. 2: That’s the textbook definition of the non-deliberate DOGSO as...

    Always getting grief

Are you trying too hard? By that I mean things including looking for an advantage that isn’t there? Rightly trying the wait and see approach but waiting too long? Try modifying your approach a little. Perhaps give fouls earlier, play less or no advantage unless it’s screaming obvious like a one...

    Barnet red card

For some reason I can’t get the sky video either, but saw it on the ITV show. It looked like there was other stuff going on around him with players crowding in. Maybe he wanted to get close enough to the offender to show the card and not inflame a situation. Looked like the benches were going...

    City v Wolves

The ball brushes the underside of his tricep, and close to his chest. I need convincing on a penalty for that. It’s passing between his body and arm and I can see that as natural, possibly trying too late to evade the ball? Ball to tricep for a penalty, needs to be doing the YMCA dance or...

    Level of Referee

Some leagues I’m on list referees by level at the start of the season. Admittedly doesn’t account for mid season promotions but might be an (imperfect) option?

    Keeper ruling

On what grounds are you showing the keeper a red card ? No obvious goalscoring opportunity has been denied here, which is the only handball offence that a goalkeeper could be sent off for.

    EFL referee appointments

I can see the point you’re trying to make here and there’s merit in the question. I think the three month gap though works in his favour. Many games since, and time enough for him to have revisited and reviewed that day and make positive changes? A return trip within a month would...

    Man Utd vs Man City

Keith Hackett strikes me as a bitter man, who seems to have it in for Howard Webb regardless of what happens. Although he’s likely making money from being perpetually angry as is the current vogue.

    Man Utd vs Man City

I do. It’s a psychological thing which is why I used the boy who cried wolf analogy. Rolling is subconsciously associated with lesser fouls. The flipside of this is that not moving causes a moment of reflection, especially as it happens less often. The rarer something is, or the less common an...
