    Celtic - Hearts

I think there is little/no chance the AR would have flagged had there not been VAR. However, my personal opinion is that because of the magnitude of the game, for the purpose of transparency his action has ‘activated’ VAR where no one from Herts can really complain about the goal being given. I...

    Notts County v Chesterfield

Things become even more forensic with Observers (at every game except in the PL where they have delegates who analyse from afar etc) & coaches etc.

    Notts County v Chesterfield

    Yes, absolute nonsense.

    MOT vs CEL

Spot on James, though I have to say even though I was assaulted three times in my Refereeing career, with the last one being pretty bad, I was never in favour of strike action & not a money thing, but just getting out there to do a game.

    Notts County v Chesterfield

I have been reading over the course of the past few months that fans generally consider Referees in L2 to be poor - not that I believe anything a fan thinks since they generally wear rose dinted & biased glasses favouring the team they support. However, I have visited Notts County to see them...

    MOT vs CEL

There is much truth in what you have said here & previously.

    Seasonal 5-4

I spose it’s a bit like the promotion play offs throughout the pyramid.

    Seasonal 5-4

I think I am a bit behind the times. Am I right in thinking that whether it be mid-season or end of season, there are no longer any automatic promotions based upon merit tables etc? In other words, are all promotions from 4-3, 3-2 & 2-1 just based upon those invited to assessment days?

    MOT vs CEL

And the same thing happened in England a few months ago with Michael Oliver following Wolves v Arsenal & police protection were in place for 2-3 weeks.

    MOT vs CEL

I still have respect for Referees now since it’s more difficult now than it’s ever been & those on the PL are often much younger than those from yesteryear wherever it be from the 60s, 70’s, 80’s and since the inception of the PL in 1992. This means that although they are much fitter these days...

    MOT vs CEL

I think that would be a step in the right direction but the list doesn’t seem to include ‘the arm of god’ scenario like Maradona unless you are including that in goal/no goal (but I think you may mean GLT), which would then mean bringing in something for deliberate ‘clear’ deliberate handball or...

    NLS allocations out

Won appeals are very few and far between, but there have been some eg: 2023/24- Uttoxeter Town were successful in securing a reprieve to remain in the North West Counties League Division One South. 2024/25 - Clapton Community FC successfully appealed their initial placement and were laterally...

    NLS allocations out

True with NPL, though it’s a straight swap with Rushall Olympic who appealed last year from being placed in NPL. It could be argued that Quorn are more northernly that Rushall, but then perhaps Quorn could argue some teams are more north west & therefore closer to Rushall.

    NLS allocations out

Quorn have been moved laterally and they are not happy - they are intending to appeal. I don’t blame them, though it will be difficult to win it, especially when they have been in the NPL before.

    MOT vs CEL

Could there have been more angles had the Referee waited!

    MOT vs CEL

This is a very personal opinion and I’m not saying that I agree with my own thoughts but Referees can’t win - they either take too long or not long enough, though the Celtic incident was very quick, but he obviously saw what he wanted to see. Similar to the Raya incident, I don’t think it was a...

    West Ham v Arsenal

I don’t think HW could/would defend the indefensible, but in this case, the words that came from him were a fair reflection of what occurred & the advice provided at the start of the season. Some may be saying they have incidences when the outcomes were different & therefore inconsistent, but i...

    West Ham v Arsenal

A breakaway is one reason, plus the fact that the AR is positioned behind (usually) the corner flag/goal line so would be duplication of the same position, albeit the AR is further away. Also, from being positioned in front of the penalty area this enables the Referee to move if required &...

    Spurs Vs Leeds

That is all very reasonable, though I think that in this particular incident involving Maddison it was reasonable for a last ditch challenge to be made in the way that it was with the defenders focus purely on the ball & although he himself was positioned behind the ball, imo the challenge was...

    Spurs Vs Leeds

Maddison didn’t help himself by going to ground in the way that he did in an attempt to gain a penalty which is perhaps why VAR checked & passed within a few seconds.
