    Getting Ready for 21/22

Have you looked at creating your own sports profiles in polar flow? I have a football one I created for my v800. I’m not sure about the sprint stuff but it lets you mix and match what is shown on the screen.

    Getting Ready for 21/22

I found mentoring really rewarding, helping new referees in their first few formative games etc.

    Getting Ready for 21/22

I reckon I’ll be at a decent level of fitness for the standard of football I will be officiating by the time the season starts. But I do find that it takes me longer to recover than it used to, but I need to just be better with recovery sessions and stretching etc. my aim is that 21/22 will...

    Getting Ready for 21/22

How is everyone’s preparations for the 21/22 season going? I need to finish of the last module of the safeguarding re-qual so I can register with the CFA. Im getting rid of all my existing kits, as through injury and lock down they all seem to have shrunk, they will be donated to referees in...

I’m not saying replace the Cooper test, I was merely pointing out that referees do more than run in a circle for 12 minutes. Of course, whatever they do to measure fitness needs to be something that can be easily organised without the need for specialist equipment or overly complicated...

True, but it simply doesn’t replicate all of what a referee has to do during a match, I.e. sprints, sudden changes in direction etc.

    Hearing Issues

There is/was a local referee who’d been officiating since Noah was a lad. When players used to get on his back he just turned his hearing aids off.

The Cooper test is good as a general guide to overall fitness, but it’s not necessarily a good indicator of refereeing fitness.

    Really, coach?!

If the captain really was a qualified referee then he could have explained the law to the coach.

Open Age First Adult Game as AR and boot Issues

I’ve never been to a place with 4G that has said you can’t wear astro type trainers/shoes. I guess it depends on the age of the pitch, owners are likely to be more protective of a pitch that’s only a couple of years old rather than one that’s been in place for a decade. I guess football clubs...

Open Age First Adult Game as AR and boot Issues

Not having black boots isn’t really an issue. I think it is mainly so you don’t draw unwanted attention to your self but it’s not a written rule, and I don’t think anyone would recommend you not doing games until you get the “right” boots.

    Soton - Leicester

I saw it via Reddit with french commentary, I thought Red for SFP as soon as I saw it. Though it is also DOGSO.

    Breakaway European League.

I’m sure I read that the ESL were going to/threatening to take legal action against the clubs that have pulled out, as they had all already signed various contracts etc committing them to the league. Not the sort of thing you would do (signing legally binding contracts) if it was only ever...

    Breakaway European League.

I believe France and Germany already have similar laws. It would be easy to let soccer zone and the like get around it, just word it appropriately so that it would only apply to professional leagues.

    Breakaway European League.

The government could put a stop to this, just introduce legislation that only allows games/competitions affiliated with The FA to take place in England.

Robot linos are coming thanks to Arsene

AI development is going along at a relatively quick rate, but I don’t think it would be ready for the World Cup, or that it would be financially viable or accurate enough. Any form of GPS wouldn’t work because it isn’t accurate enough, and systems like HawkEye can watch players but doesn’t have...

Robot linos are coming thanks to Arsene

I wonder how much it would cost to develop, build, and implement such a system. This system would need to: Track the ball constantly Track every player constantly Be able to determine when an attacking player is between the second to last defending player and the goal line Whether a player has...

    Ipswich v Northampton

I remember going to a event a few years back where a PL referee was giving a talk. He was asked why they don’t deal with offinabus, he said because clubs and spectators don’t want to see their star players get sent off because the referee doesn’t like being sworn at. I don’t know whether this...

    WBA vs BRI

if I were a cynical man I’d think that SG1, and to a lesser degree SG2, just look like jobs for the boys. But I know the fact that there seems to be very few up and coming referees in SG2 who might be ready to make the jump, and there are SG1 referee who only do a handful of games a season with...

    WBA vs BRI

you’d probably need double the number of referees, so they can alternate between referee and 4th official. I don’t see why they don’t have a cadre of referees who only do VAR.
