I had my first game back after a 2 season break today. I think I had a bit of a mare. I didn’t lose control of the game, nor did I drop any huge clangers or go insane and do something that was wrong in law etc. I just felt I was always behind play, with positioning being off, and not reading...

It’s quite a rare occasion for me to have to wear a suit to a match, and while I don’t have any issues with it I think tracksuits are the way forward. It more convenient, fits our role as participants in a sporting event, and is much more comfortable for driving in etc.

Here in Sunny Kent I had a game that when I turned up the pitch was ankle deep in freezing water/melting snow and the facility didn’t call the game off.

It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Ive seen a few referees over the years who were more interested in making their lives easier in the short term rather than thinking about the longer term impact of their not putting cards in etc.

which is strange, as the laws just say that players must wear footwear, and that any equipment players wear must be safe. There is nothing about the type of footwear, studs or anything like that. for shin pads it says that they must provide “reasonable” protection but doesn’t give any guidance...

I wasn’t planning on looking for trouble, this particular chaps shin pads caught my attention as they were/are so small.

A random question that has been rattling around my brain since the start of the season: How do we (can we) decide whether shin pad provide suitable protection? while watching Gillingham vs Lincoln I noticed one of the Lincoln players had teeny tiny shin pads that looked like they covered maybe...

That would not surprise me. I ran the line once and the referee didn’t give a nailed on caution, his reasoning at half time was that he didn’t want the hassle.

Thanks all, sounds like it should do the job just fine. The polar will get relegated to the desk draw. It’s a good watch, but I just don’t need the bells and whistles, and I don’t do anything that needs the superior battery life.
