    Refsupport FA Trophy

While there is no reason for anyone to act that way towards a match official (or anyone else) it would be interesting to hear what lead to this.

    Fat TW@T

That’s a red for me too as well. What a peculiar league, saying that players can’t be sent off. I assume that if a player head butted an opponent (I know this is u10 so it’s unlikely to happen) would you just be expected to ask for him to be subbed?

Referee sends off player for taking too long on a throw-in

Exactly, players seem to get away with stupid things like this because it’s always the referees fault for dealing with it rather than the players fault for doing it.

    Things that players say

“Foul throw!” Yesterday there was apparently something wrong with every single throw the home team took, well according to one player at least.

Referee sends off player for taking too long on a throw-in

It’s very soft for a second yellow, however, 23 seconds to take a throw is taking the mick a bit. And if you’ve had several warning to hurry up and still don’t take the throw when there was opportunity to then you’ve no one to blame but yourself.

    A cheeky battle

Thanks. Yes, while I think that a dismissal for the challenge in the first half might have helped a bit, I think they’re were just two of “those” teams and it always would have been like that. The away team were bobbing off after the game that people like me shouldn’t be allowed to referee etc...

    A cheeky battle

Had a game this afternoon, which was a fairly heated affair. it started fairly even until about 10-15 minutes into the first half where two players went in for a loose ball. As soon as I saw it I went straight to caution for the away player, which is what I gave. Though in hindsight and...

    Things that players say

One I really like is when someone appeals for something that happened at the other end of the pitch. Normally the goalkeeper screaming for a handball that he can’t possibly have seen that no one else is appealing for.

    Referee retention idea

I think withdrawing u18 referees from fixtures due to a rise in abuse is a good idea. It does drive the message home to the clubs in the league that it is unacceptable and it is a very public message, more effective than open letters from RDOs. My Saturday league said in their last bulletin...

    Things that players say

Ah yes getting accused of ruining the game by a team that’s 8-4 down and conceded 3 of those in a 5 minute period. I have found that since I’ve come back after a little break that it’s much harder to resist coming back with some sarcastic quip. I gave a free kick, told the taker it was on the...

    Things that players say

I have to admit it threw me at first, as I wasn’t sure what they were going on about. I suspect all of their wittering on was intended to try and make me doubt myself, or to try and trick me into giving decisions that shouldn’t be. But as I informed their captain, I was born at night, but not...

    Advantage rule.

As has already been said, only a foul resulting from a genuine attempt to play the ball (in the penalty area) can be downgraded from a red for DOGSO to a yellow for SPA. Holding/pushing/pulling offences cannot be genuine attempts to play the ball. Dont sweat it, in my first game I didn’t send...

    Things that players say

Had a game today, and went much better than my last outing. The weather was miserable and the away team were getting soundly thrashed, but there players game out with some weird and wonderful stuff. They tried telling me that there was a new “rule” that a player can’t score a rebound from a...

    Advantage rule.

As above, sounds like a penalty and a red card.

    Sin bins

If a player is guilty of dissent then you show a yellow card and send him to the sin bin for the correct amount of time. If that player later commits a foul then he gets a caution but can stay on the pitch. if he commits another foul then he gets a yellow and then red card. if he gets another...

    Cutting the Grass

The referee at Gillinghams game today turned down a penalty appeal with a wag of the finger.

Advice on handling interactions with players

Pretty much what everyone else has said. Move away (while keeping the field of play in view). Personally, once I’ve reached the goal line I’ll make a final appeal along the line of “guys I’m not going to change my mind, move away please” then I’ll make a show of getting my book out, which...

    LUFC V LFC

Most of that stems from peoples only understanding of the laws being what they hear on Match of the Day.

    Referee retention idea

I guess then if that were to happen, then teams would need to decide whether abusing referees is more important to them than playing football. The CFA are between a rock and a hard place, they have to try and look after their referees, while also trying to keep participation up and keep the...
