    Considering hanging up the whistle

Well, I decided to pack it in in the end. there’s only been one game this season where I haven’t thought about packing it in after the final whistle. I still don’t know whether the worse player behaviour is down to me or a wider issue, but it’s irrelevant at this point. It’s just not fun...

    Stratford Vs Shrewsbury

Ive got the above match on the TV (ITV 4 if anyone is interested) and kick off has been delayed as there is a tear in one of the goal nets and they’re waiting for it to be repaired. Now it’s possible that this tear or whatever occurred between the match officials initial pitch inspection and...

    Considering hanging up the whistle

Thanks all, it’s good to get things off your chest, and taking sometime to think things over. Im disappointed, not so much in player behaviour, but because I was really looking forward to getting back into it at the start of the season. I’ll have a chat with the guys at the next RA meeting and...

    Considering hanging up the whistle

Strangely I didn’t actually have any cards in this match. I don’t think I missed anything major that could have contributed to it, and even in the last 10-15 minutes while the whinging etc started to pick up there was maybe only one or two instances where a caution for dissent was warranted, but...

    Considering hanging up the whistle

Yeah I have considered that, I over heard the away team after the match saying this team did the same last time they played them, started kicking off etc when they were behind.

    Considering hanging up the whistle

I’ve been refereeing for about 6 years give it take with a couple of seasons where I had a break after my son was born and then a dislocated knee which took the best part of the following season to recover from and then lockdowns etc. I had a slow start to this season, but I’m just not enjoying...

    It does happen

True, and it’s nice to be reminded that teams do appreciate what we do (most of the time).

    It does happen

I had a game today, a good fair division one battle between two teams who wanted to play football that ended 4-4. i got a text from the home team a little while ago thanking me for refereeing their game, I was appointed by the league so it wasn’t done as a favour or anything like that. It’s...

    England vs Hungary penalty

PIADM isn’t a red card offence, it can only occur when no contact has been made so shouldn’t be looked at the same way as you would at a potential foul when challenging for a ball. I can’t remember the last time I gave PIADM, but I view it as a player does something which causes a player to...

    Marking Managers, Players and Spectators

Both of my local leagues seem to have given up on that sort of stuff. Both have moved away from referee report forms to just sending an email with any discipline and breaches of league rules.

    Things that players say

Should have gone steaming in and snatched the ball out of the keepers hands and awarded the idfk.

    Things that players say

Yes, apparently there have been lots of new rules introduced this season that IFAB forgot to add to the laws.

    Refsupport FA Trophy

At least the manager won’t be in the dugout for a few weeks. I wonder whether the club will appeal any bans or fines dished out.

Sin Bin Rules - I have managed to confuse myself (again!)

Thinking back to my sin bin training, I believe any dissent whilst in the sin bin would be a normal yellow for dissent, so in your example he would have had 3 yellow cards.

    procedure for an abandoned game

On whole game there should be check box for if the game was abandoned. It’s been a while since I abandoned a game but I think then gives you the option of reporting the reason it was abandoned. I had one once with a suspected head/neck injury so we could t move the player and the ambulance was...

    Refsupport FA Trophy

Reads like a fairly straightforward match. some on Twitter are claiming the ref had a bad game, as if that somehow justifies the managers behaviour. I’ve never understood reactions like this, they’re always way out of proportion to the incident that sparks it off.
