The Ref Stop

PNE v Bristol City

The Ref Stop
do we need something in the laws around blatant cheating identified after the fact by video etc? some leagues do for simulation...

no other way to realistically stop this sort of behaviour.

At the end of the day it’s disappointing that none of the 4th officials saw the incident, but understandable given the circumstances and where it occurred etc. It is also frustrating for PNE & the Manager that the incident was not identified, but for him to describe the officials as not good enough is unfair & I suspect he could only identify from on-screen technology which I think they may be allowed to have in their T/A - unless he has bionic eyes.

Hi all, Bristol City fan. Knew someone who used to a bit of refereeing for Sussex at Grassroots level. It's a tough and valued job you do akbwut I'm often fuming about certain calls but notably the FA.

Anyway I wondered on this, it would help to settle a debate. Can Yu Hirakawa be retrospectively banned? I can't think if any precedent in the UK but...

2017- Wright , 2 Game Ban Simulation v Kamara. A questionable call. Vs Fulham.
2018- Diedhiou, 6 Game Ban for allegedly spitting at David Davis, Harlee Dean backed him up. There was a major lack of evidence, it seemed to be He Said She Said etc, 2 v .
2023- Sykes 4 Game Ban uns0otted in real time.

How do the FA pick such incidents, what are the objective criteria, how many games do they sit and rewatch?

There are lots of ways.

Match officials are required to report serious offences they haven't seen but have been reported to them.

At these levels they have observers who a) have to provide a report on the referee and b) refer key match decisions to a panel. They also watch footage back and timestamp the clip for the panel.

The clubs report to the FA post match.

So no not every minute of every game is reviewed but normally when unusual, more serious incidents happen then they find their ways back to the FA

Thank you, that is interesting and informative especially the bit about the criteria.

Do we think Yu Hirakawa could get something retrospective or is it not catered for by the Regulations. Many of my fellow fans are adamant that it is fine.

Scoring with a hand, although undesirable is a yellow card offence yes?

Attempting to score a goal with the hand or arm is a caution offence.

A caution offence of this nature would not attract retrospective action
