Leeds vs Wolves

Mooseybaby

Retired big bad baldy in all black!
Leeds Rasmus Kristensen got flattened by Wolves keeper Jose Sa whilst challenging for a high ball. Kristensen heads the ball, Sa gets nowhere near it and floors the Leeds man on the follow through. Reviewed by VAR, no penalty given.

We hear a lot of "high bar" and "clear and obvious". Really not sure how more obvious it needs to be anymore, referee didn't see/give it, anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul every time. Would be interesting to hear the reasoning.

Not the first time and doubt it will be the last, football really doesn't do itself any favours by giving an apparent green light to wiping out your opponent late if they have passed or shot moments before contact.

The Referee Store
The PL is in its own little world when it comes to VAR. Plays that VAR would send down in every other league in the world aren’t there. We’ll see if that changes at all with Webb coming in, or if thats just what the PL wants. But as I think others have posted here, it really creates a black hole. If refs are more reluctant to make the calls (perhaps becase the VAR is there), and VAR won’t intervene, it leads to extra mayhem.

One of the most blatant barges in the back with zero intent to play the ball you will ever see on Wellbeck, VAR decided no penalty. The so-called high bar must be higher than the ISS!

The "high bar" shouldn't be applied to domestic leagues. It works in the Euros and the World Cup because most matches have a world class referee and a world class VAR on them. Those high level referees don't make as many errors on KMIs and the low number of VARs used during the tournament helps drive consistency. But in the Premier League or Bundesliga or Serie A, you don't have an elite ref on most matches and you certainly don't have an elite VAR (especially in England). The bar should be lower not higher.

As a wolves fan - I felt that that should have been a penalty. Don’t know how it wasn’t.
