Level 5 Referee
Currently an L7 hopefully applying for promotion to L6 when the promotion window opens & new details are released.

I'm currently being ask for my availability for July & August and just wondered what my chances maybe of getting a opportunity with teams operating at step 5-6 as an AR? would great for my development to work with referees from a higher level.

In England the management of pre-season and other friendlies varies by area.
In some places, the Appointments Secretary will do the appointing, in some the County FA will do them, and in others the clubs arrange the officials.
Your County FA will be able to advise the situation and the likelihood of appointments at the level you aspire to.
Good luck.

in my experience, pre-season appointments is a lot about who you know as clubs (step 3 and below) generally either sort refs themselves (from a pool they know) or get local refs to do it for them (again from a pool they know).

facebook is also a great forum for getting games with many clubs (at all levels) asking for officials for freindlies. problem is you need to know the name of the local facebook group to get added...

where abouts in the country are you?

as suggested above, first step contact local CFA but also contact any refereeing colleagues, particularly those used to reffing at Steps 5 and 6 as they'll likely be able to help point you in the right direction as well

Hants FA

Interestingly one of the local appointments secretary has emailed about pre season dates and will be appointing available officials to step 5-6 pre season games so you never know.

ah that's decent. imo better it's run centrally than by several individuals

Would be beneficial to contact Brian LeBreton at Hampshire FA also, as he appoints to friendlies at various levels.

Depend where you are for my FA last preseason I got a game as an AR of step 4-5 and I just got the email like 2 weeks before the fixture and another I got was for morecambes second team so like step 3-5 as a 4th official. I feel like sometimes it also depends on whether you are available or not.

It is increasingly common for referees who have picked up frinedly middles in step 5 and 6 games to put in WhatsApp and Facebook groups that they need assistants. Less so at higher levels as really should be minimum L4, certainly for at least one of the ARs.
