New fitness test

I also found the new fitness test way easier than previous years (Cooper Run)

Easy to practice if you can’t get down to the track too…
I measured out 75m (Approx 100 steps) in the park - and then 25m out each side (approx 32 steps) and used the sound clips we all got a few weeks back via email for the timings.
I’m hoping you measured 75m with 12.5m either side…

Otherwise you’ve gotta walk the 25m extra twice to get back to your 75m run 😂

Could someone upload the "sound clips" please or point me in the right direction?

Please can someone confirm that it's OK to get the Blood Pressure form stamped by a Pharmacist
It would be absurd to hog a GP's appointment for this sole purpose given how busy they are

Correct. And GP most likely charge you too. Find a pharmacy that do free BP

Yes, need a pharmacy stamp though.

Obviously can get it done by a nurse as well.
Had her it done on the automatic one in the reception in the past, and a nurse will stamp and sign between appointments.

Until I succumbed and started taking tablets, getting an acceptable BP reading was always the hardest part of passing the fitness tests for me. My BP was always a bit high ... put someone wearing a white coat in front of me and it skyrocketed

One year it took me nearly two hours and over 50 readings to get one that was acceptable .....

Worried this is going to be my undoing this year

Me too. My home one is on the edge. Might need a week off caffeine and sugar 🙇

Annoying as I did the test up last night and could have kept going so the test itself is going to be relatively straightforward.

I had the same whitecoat problem and spoke to the GP about it. I could feel my heart racing as I sat in front of the person putting the armband on - couldn't get the thought of a whole season of hard work going down the drain out of my head ! He said it's not unusual and taking single readings is a nonsense anyway. I now fill in an online form with readings over a few days & they take an average.

It's a well known phenomenon that your clinical BP is higher than your home readings.. it says so in the manual for my BP reader.

I say well known, I actually just mean known 😂

Does anyone know whether on the day we get the audio file or equivalent, or just a whistle to start and stop ? I'm particularly interested in the 5 second to go bleep on the audio file

Normally they hook up the audio file to speakers to broadcast so you hear the audio file as you have it here

Thanks - that's really helpful.
I've always had plenty to spare on the old Cooper, so never trained for a fitness test. This one is much harder for me, so I've had to practice, as much as anything teaching my body how to start and stop 40 times. For anyone else close to the wire, here are what's helping get me to a place where I'm beginning to feel more confident :
  1. Ingrain the pace you need deeply in muscle memory. You want one foot in the walking zone, which is over a line drawn at 73.5 metres, just as the 15 second whistle is going. Being too quick on the early repetitions will kill you later on
  2. I know exactly how far I need to be from the line when the 10 second gone / 5 seconds to go bleep sounds,. I've got it marked on my practice course and I'll be pacing it out on the day
  3. Make sure you go on the 'W' of whistle
  4. If you have muscle problems, accelerating and stopping 40 times will find them out. Don't jump out of the car and just start like I did !
  5. I find it starts feeling like hard work quite early on, but then doesn't get much worse. Just because it hurts after 20 reps doesn't mean you can't get there !
Good luck to anyone aiming for the first tranche of tests in10 days or so !
