Everton v Burnley

The Referee Store
At a guess - agricultural challenge by Tarkowski on Richarlison not cautioned?

If the Townsend caution, Martin Atkinson did point to the other side of the field. I’d suggest he was saying that it was for the same thing as the Brownhill caution in the first half.

Care to elaborate?
Anyone watching won't need explanation. Awful refereeing. Not often a tackle leaves me aghast. I don't understand what's going on with EPL refs. Appallingly bad at times

The only explanation is that they can't be that bad and it's actually the instructions they're working to. Three blatant cautions for wild tackles ignored, one of which was clearly endangering safety IMO. Unreal
I wouldn't mind wiping Richarlison out myself... but I wouldn't expect a team to repeatedly get away targettng him. Not sure how the lad still has two legs in tact

It wouldn’t have looked out of place in an ice hockey game I agree.

Early on though, Atkinson seemed to have it about right. One that comes to mind was Richarlson again, clearly leaning backwards into a defender who simply stepped back and let physics do the rest. Not a foul despite the arm flapping. After that it seemed to unravel and he had a poor spell. Think the quick fire goals bailed him out and killed the match as a contest.

We'll get the Tarkowski one off YouTube later. He won the ball. At least I think he did. As we know, nothing else matters. I was watching from behind the sofa 🙀

I was on a phone call and had the football on the TV with the sound off. Think I interjected into the conversation with a WTF! 😳

Suspect the officials are still trying to adjust to this newer and more laid back approach. New approach or not though, that Tarkowski challenge just cannot be allowed. That ticked all boxes for being out of control.

Oooh, two tackles featured on Monday Night Football, and wow, I think Martin Atkinson has let himself down there.

The first tackle from Brownhill is unbelievable, challenge from behind and he didn't even get a caution? And I wouldn't have complained had some people gone for red for that.

Seen the 50th minute Tarkowski challenge on the touchline, and that's a bit strong. I'm told that wasn't given as a foul? Oh dear.

To finish what I started, 'what the hell... IS THAT?' (on 10s)

The tackle in the first minute (Harvey Elliott take 2) (not shown in the clip) was OK though, cos it happened in the first minute
Disgraceful refereeing. Nothing short of that really

I'm sorry but what I've seen so far the Premiership referees have got it totally wrong this season The talk after the Euro's was about letting the game flow more by stopping the soft free kicks for falling over at the slightest contact. The Premiership referee's are allowing brutal tackles to return to the game and its wrong because it will start happening at all levels again. I've said it before on a previous post but I've been questioned already about blowing the whistle too often and spoiling a game when all I was doing was calling fouls that were fouls

Is it another hamfisted PGMOL implementation of an 'idea'? I mean, they are telling the refs what to do after all.

Exactly. This is just the FA trying to do something that's been trialled in Europe and making a mess of it. Again.

It's supposed to be a very slight raising of the bar on how much force actually constitutes a careless foul. And that's it. But either through individual incompetence, or poor training, we've seen a number of our referees changing their bar on much more serious tackles - which should have remained unaffected.

This is an u23 game played on Monday night. On 40 secs, a straight red for a similar challenge. I've seen a few of these given at this level this season and I'd agree with the decision. If only the EPL refs would do the same.

Worth watching for full 6 mins for some nice goals.

What the Referees did at the Euros, was a reasonably successful attempt at stopping players from refereeing the games by ignoring the way players (like Harry Kane for example) have become adept at feigning a FT against them. These stoppages are pervasive, spoil games and are a low level form of cheating. So, I don't think they redefined CRUEF, they merely identified that they had to get wise to players conning them
So the Refs at the Euros ultimately did well because they demonstrated a better understanding of the game
The PGMOL on the other hand... they have redefined CRUEF... so they've messed it up... that's the difference for me

What you describe in your first few lines is a redefinition of Careless. And that's fine.

In the Euros they redefined C and said that the definition of REUF remains the same. In the PL, we've seen a nudge upward of all of them.

Watched 4 minutes of the game to see what the notice on this thread is all about. And I can see it.

50th minute tackles had all the elements of a red card, speed, intensity, studs showing.... The only thing that made it orange was he kept himself on the ground. Would have been happy with either card. Foul but no card given.

51st minute, tackle from behind, not a lot of speed but still a slide from behind cleaning the opponent. Clear yellow for me. No card give.

52nd, slight tug of the shoulder, opponent goes to the ground (possibly a trip), foul but nothing more for me. Yellow card given. I have no idea what the yellow was for. Couldn't have been SPA due to number of defenders and position on the field. The player was as surprised as I was.
