Valencia v Real Madrid

Valencia had to retake their first penalty today after it was saved and an encroaching player scored the rebound. I thought this was an IDFK. I know the law is “if the ball enters the goal” the kick is retaken, but I thought that referred only to the original penalty. Seems unfair on the keeper who has made the save. Can anyone clear this up?

The Referee Store
it should be an IDFK if only an attacking player was encroaching.
Although I haven’t seen it I suspect there was encroachment by both attackers and defenders so therefore it would be correct for the kick to be retaken.

Wow. That’s about the least encroachment I’ve seen on a professional pk. Is the default on a rebound goal becoming a retake as the trifling encroachment gets called on both teams?

Looks like trifling no more. Yeap, retake. Begs the question, if we are going to be that pedantic about this type of encroachment, are we also going to pedantically deduct KMI marks from the referee for signalling for the kick to be taken while there were other defenders in the PA (foot on the line)?

Seen a clip from junior leagues up here today similar to this.

Referee gives IDFK.

from the angle we see, only attacking player encroaches so should be a retake, I believe
Juniour? Them uphill paper rounds taking their tolls 😉🤣🤣
(edit: I do know what you actually mean 😁)

Yep, you are right, should have been a retake. I definitely wouldn't be allowing a quick FK and breakaway here either. Asking for some. Serious trouble.. Let the game calm down, let everyone process what's happened and the restart.
Of course, you'd like to get the decision correct so there'd be no chance of that 😁

Honestly I am far less worried seeing this from a most likely first or second year referee than the penalties I see from form the top 5 leagues or UEFA games from those who have been referee sing for decades.

I think you're right. I know there is a complicated table of outcomes in the LOTG, but it seems like practically speaking we should just assume players from both sides encroach and therefore the only possible outcomes are:

It's inconsequential, so we carry on with whatever result occurs from the kick.
It has consequences (an encroaching player scores/clears a rebound), so we assume there is also an encroaching player from the other side and order a retake.
