My grandsons team played the son of a current SUFC striker on sunday (BS), he was there supporting his son. Shame that everything has to go on hold as the joy on their faces win lose or draw is fabulous.
Football will return. They are going they have a whole lifetime ahead of them to enjoy the sport once this passes
I am hugely concerned about the older generation. My mum is in her 70s and has asthma.
The UK government has made an incredible change in pace. Last week 250k people attended Cheltenham. This week you shouldn't be having a kick about.
I fear this will go bad in the major cities with high population densities.
We all need to be firmly thinking about how we can limit its spread. This virus doesn't immediately show symptoms which is why it spreads easily. A phrase I heard from a cheif medical advisor was 'imagine you have already got the virus, now act accordingly' so don't visit your vulnerable friends and relatives and have good hand hygiene.

To help us all keep a sense of perspective though, when looking at the Coronavirus numbers, bear in mind that eg more than 3,000 people die worldwide in car crashes every day . This is probably significantly down right now because of the reduction in travel ....

By way of explanation:
My day job means I’m seeing a lot of data on infection rates and recovery as well as others measures so I’m basing my ‘argument’ partly on that.
Also if the new measures last 2-3weeks that takes us almost to the Easter holidays for school. Less games played over that period anyway and after we’re good to go with 7 weeks to play things.
It’s doable without too much strain.
The other issue with grass roots football is that a huge percentage of pitches close down at the end of April, many for cricket. I doubt there will be enough pitches available to complete the amount of games left, obviously not an issue that senior level clubs have.
Also, researchers advising the government are now saying that the restrictions could have to remain in place for as long as 18 months, or potentially longer until a vaccine is found. It may be isn't a question of whether we finish this season but rather whether next season happens.

I've now been stopped visiting sites now in my job, three times today, my other rep is 67 and his younger wife (52) has had massive health problems recently. As a business we've now made a decision to not visit any sites for the foreseeable future! We'll try and do things via phone, skype, photos etc. Welcome to permanently working from home!!! I've worked away almost permanently for 31 years, this will be interesting!!! I'm bored already!!!
I hate working from home, technically it is easy to do in my job but I just don't like it. Climbing the walls already, this could be a very long few weeks or, hopefully not, months. Seriously considering getting a refund on my annual train season ticket as can't see me using it for some time.

Upgraded VPN capacity from 1500 to 8500 consecutive users, created remote service desk capabilities, remote dealing and fund managing capabilities, crib sheets to tell people what to do as many will have never worked from home, amongst other things. If I still got overtime I'd have been over the moon, but lost that last year ...
My brother who had HPV Tonsil Cancer treatment last year had to ring his nurse up to see if he was still in a high risk group! Luckily his treatment is finished and his immune system has regained its full strength. Strange sh!t that you have to think about in this new world we find ourselves in from this week!! He's working from home now, god knows when we can see them next in Blackpool area!!

It's amazing. I've worked from home when I'm not travelling for the past 6 years and it's interesting what you get accustomed to! But I can see how it's daunting for someone who has never done it before.
I spent the first 5 years of my working life in Engineering in Sheffield. (Thats where the SF bit comes from). But, travelling to work, 4 buses, all weathers, not knowing what the weather did between 8.00 and 4,30 in a clammy, smelly, oily factory I was glad to get out and see virtually all the UK working away for the last 31 years. Not the posh bits, the Industrial Estate bits! I used to try and work at home one day a week, but as we got busier that dropped off to 1 afternoon in 2020 so far. Its the new norm so we'll all have to suck it up. I'm sure many many firms though will go under very shortly if this goes on longer than say a month!!! If its months I do feel it could be armageddon out there!!! Hopefully not, keep safe peeps!!

My wife works from home. I'll now be working from home for the near future. And both my kids are home from college taking their classes from home for the rest of the school year. Very different.

I am in Helsinki, so maybe a week ahead of the UK with the change thanks to our mate Covid. We went from schools still open announcement on Sunday, to schools closing announcement on Monday, to mandatory home schooling except for special cases today.
My take is that everyone who can should do as much as possible to isolate already. Any contribution to slowing the rate of transmission is a positive step.
Governments obviously have to take it slowly if they can to avoid panic and give ministries, organizations and companies time to prepare (though TBH I'm very surprised the UK has pubs open with vague guidelines still).
In terms of completing the season or when the lockdown is over...
...well, the UK isn't even close to lockdown yet. I'm presuming, given the UK's population density, it's going to get like e.g. France is now in about two weeks time (based on how quickly/slowly the govt are making decisions). And looking at how long Wuhan has taken to level off - in a totalitarian state, in extreme conditions - then 10-14 weeks of lockdown would be best case, maybe longer. Of course, all depends on how the health services can cope.
When we look at France, Spain, Italy, it's obvious that the lockdown is coming to the UK. Here in Helsinki the school holidays start right at the beginning of June, so I am already certain that the kids won't go back to school until earliest August. In the UK, kids back at school in July would be a miracle... and so my back-of-a-matchbox sums and my honest guess says that this social isolation - including e.g. grassroots football - will go on until well into the summer.
I hope things change for the better - and it's with a heavy heart - but I am preparing mentally for best case two months of home schooling, a very weird summer, and not blowing a whistle until something like August.
And then, back stronger!
