Leicester v Arsenal

Probably the most pathetic 2 cautions I've ever seen given.

No red for the stamp on Torreira's chest?

No foul for the trip on Aubameyang before AMN first 'yellow'?

Horror show

I've only seen the first half highlights but while the first could perhaps be seen as a tiny bit soft, Michael Oliver seemed to be indicating he was taking other offences into consideration and even without that it was a fairly good shout for a SPA offence on its own. The second was a nailed-on reckless challenge yellow - classic example of a player who has mis-controlled the ball trying to make up for it by lunging in on an opponent in a reckless manner, for me.

The number of mistakes he has made today is just unacceptable.

Funny how sky didn't show the clear stamp on Torreira and the studs just below the knee on Xhaka.

Arsenal fan perhaps Ryan, as you've described a totally different game to what I watched?

Both cautions for Maitland-Niles were spot on. First clearly stopped a promising attack and the second was nowhere near the ball and reckless.

For me there was no stamp on Torreira, not even close. Choudhary just tried to push off to turn and get away and caught the player on the floor, no way that was in any way intentional.

Second he wasn't touched as pointed out by Sky.
Choudhary - his foot wouldn't have stamped on him in a natural position. He did it on purpose.
The yellow for the studs on Xhaka - VAR would have given red surely?
Chilwell on a Yellow takes out Torreira, worse than both of AMN's offences - not sent off...
Sokratis - should have been sent off lol

First one an easy yellow for me. Second one very harsh for me, not enough for either reckless or SPA. In isolation I wouldn't give that a yellow, especially a second one when I would have to be even more sure of it.
Second he wasn't touched
definitely a fan :), "I didn't touch him ref". If he wasn't touched then it shouldn't be a foul then, is that what you are saying?

I've only seen clips of the two cautions. First was SPA for me, but second was a bit soft from the angle I've seen.

Not seen the other offences. Good advantages played for the third goal.

Not touching the opponent is absolutely not a bar to issuing a yellow card. It's still an offence (and if reckless, which this was, a cautionable offence) to kick or attempt to kick, or to trip or attempt to trip an opponent. Maitland-Niles lost the ball, lunged recklessly at an opponent in trying to retrieve it and was justifiably cautioned for it (IMHO). I actually thought the first yellow was more questionable.

Remember this one? No contact and still a wholly justifiable yellow card - admittedly Maitland-Niles' attempted kick/trip wasn't quite as bad as this but the principle that contact is not required for a yellow card, still holds.

Tbf the Rooney one could have been a red card with or without contact. Out of control. Excessive force. Player safety endangered. Tick tick tick..

Completely disagree that the second caution was reckless, I kind of agree with Souness (for once) that Maddison rolling around in fake pain has probably sold it to Oliver.

It probably looked worse than it was, but it had the tell tale sign of player miss-controlling the ball, overrunning it and then lunging. Certainly not an incorrect caution.

Only seeing Match of the Day 2 I did wonder if this was a possibility.

Second one, on first view at normal speed it looked nailed on. Watching it back, Maddison has pulled of an act of skulduggery sadly. His comments after about diving in and catching him are flimsier than rice paper. I’m certain that his reaction has influenced the decision to caution again; otherwise it would have been a last chance saloon warning.
