I don’t know how it happens One i just don’t know how it happens.

I’m hoping there is another newbie this season that I can read there match incidents & relate to.

Gotta be sum future referee in the country with the same mindset as me surely

I’m going into this season with a positive relaxed attitude well i actually refereed a friendly the other day u23’s good standard of football was a pleasure & was the first time I thought Jesus I could get used to this brand of football new ground 4g pitch etc.

Although I did slip back to my old ways slightly, had a fella moan about an offside that the Lino flagged for i blew for it & the player wouldn’t shut up so i took my shirt off well got it half over my head & said swap shirts you ref the rest of the game & I’ll play in Centre mid. He was gobsmacked no ref no ref I was just saying, I smiled and said let’s crack on with the game then.

I promised myself I woudnt share that moment because it ends up in 10 page conversations about what I’ve done wrong & how I’m a disgrace to the badge etc, I’ll not be sharing any of my magical moments this coming season but of course will still ask for advice on the lotg after I’ve researched them myself 🤥

Like that style, may have done something similar back in the day.......only guarantee there is I was a better referee than player

I’m aiming to become a better ref than player not sure I’ll ever achieve it though.

We’ve still won 3 world cups though to the French 2.... NB...do your research before besmirching my statement please!

Agreed and this goes back to my original concerns with VAR. My opinion is VAR should be full speed and only 2 to 3 views of each angle. If you cant be certain after that the. You should go with what you I initially thought it was

I've said this from the very beginning of when the VAR was introduced into Australia as a trial last season. There needs to be a time limit. If the referee can't decide within x, y or z seconds (lets say 20) then it's neither 'clear' nor 'obvious' and the original decision, whatever it was, should stand.

There are several of you very fortunate that Murri O has come in with a relevant post.

I shouldn't have to repeat myself again, but quit the spamming otherwise there WILL be consequences.

Personally I dont agree to a ticking clock, with the crowd no doubt doing a countdown, with possibly the tv coverage putting a countdown like clock on my screen, making it more a game show than a sporting event.
Its like the good old days before VAR, say a disputed offside, go talk to the AR, take your time, just get the right call
How long did Gieger spend watching Koreas goal v Germany?
He also got repeated views from diff angles, all of which helped get the correct decision
The WC pen will of course be debated forever. For me, this was not tho a case of ref seeing something real time and getting it wrong. He saw nothing amiss, never had the pk call thought process in his head at the time. Everything he saw on the screen was diff to what he has just seen in his head real time
Throw in the pressure, confusion, crowd, players wondering whats going on, the voices in his head and the actual voices in his head, then, personally am fine with it taking as long as it takes

No one can say it was a complete failure, it wasn’t, however with that level of investment on technology and manpower I’d of expected fewer feck ups than we got. The players herranging the referee or making the sign has to be stopped. The was a massive blot on the tournament I don’t really understand all the protocols stuff, most seemed to be making it up on the spot.

Also with VAR it’s pushing the professional game further & further away from the amature game, it’s quite sad really that both lino’s & referee’s in the pro game will eventually be following a different criteria than those at grass roots.

Delayed flags being my biggest concern. Also I’m just waiting for the first player to say ref no way is that a foul or a red, if you had VAR you’d see it yourself.

Also there is going to be sections and pages in the LOTG that won’t apply to grass roots, surely with VAR the book will have to be amended.

And this is just the start what happens in 10yrs time when the next bright idea & piece of tech comes along.

Does this differ from other sports though? Rugby had video ref for years at pro, athletics or swimming, if you cheat for a head start at a major event, the electronic tag thing gets you but at your local event it wont, tennis at top level has Hawkeye which you dont have at Bognor Regis council courts, even at running, I have done a local half marathon and a national one, the national one gives you a chip for your shoe so they can track/verify your movements and route.
My long winded point being, the higher up you go, the goal posts do indeed get moved.
A grass roots footballer can only adhere to the conditions in front of him, if he wants AAR and VAR and so on, then he has to play at that level

That’s the beauty of football though Ciley no matter where you are who you are with pick up a ball & play.

Grass roots & pro game singing off the same hymn sheet, now one will be alien to the other & it’s a shame.

But you still can and the objective is still the same, to score more than the opponents. Exactly how that process is achieved depends on the level you are playing. Whether its jumpers for goals, school, charity match or WC Final, score more goals, you win

The days of the whole scheme planting themselves on the local spare turf are long gone. I would not even know within walking distance of me where I could batter a ball about these days. I think its fair to say only organised football remains today.

Just a real shame that both amature refs and players will feel further & further removed from the pro game.

Had I been offered 4th at the start I’m sure most sensible English fan would of took that...
sad that we could have easily done better with a bit more endeavour and luck...
