Does anyone use the guide that is stickied?

I'm just wondering how many sessions should be done in a day's workout? I was thinking of taking up some of the speed/agility and speed/endurance parts of the guide for my own training. My fitness levels are fine when I'm on the pitch, it's when I'm not, my mind just goes 'boring' and shuts my body down. Annoying! So, I'm trying to improve on this aspect, I have a training buddy who is willing to go through these exercises with me, but we're just trying to hammer out the finer details.

Is that guide still relevant today or has it been updated?

Cheers. :D

Did you end up using the workout guide? I just looked at it this week, and decided to try it out - as I read it, you just choose one of the sessions (many times two different runs) each day you work out. Couple that with a proper warm up, and some other strength/core training, and you'll probably do pretty well.

Join a running club, do park run a couple of half marathons and a few 5 mile races and your fitness will be fine and never drop. Also a summer marathon just for fun! It works for me. Well the marathon might work for me Ill let you know about that after Monday!

No. I can't find a free local public pitch unfortunately. - The Leisure centre near me has one but charges an additional £5 per use on top of membership. And the local 3G is paid for at teams rates rather than individual rates (so £40 or whatever for half a pitch is a bit excessive!)

I might go visit the council at the end of this season to ask them if they have a local field I can use. The only council pitch I'm aware of is the next town over. @_@ A shame really, as I'm mostly interested in the agility training. I've just got back from a long term illness and so my agility is shot to pieces...

I was thinking of that too, but the local running club refuses training for people doing 'other sports'. I guess I could participate, since it's £2 to turn up on the day, but I was a bit disappointed at that news. :(

Uninteresting update:

So, I contacted my council, now that the season is over for me. Turns out because of some political mumbo jumbo, they don't officially hold any of the grounds or parks anymore. The advice being 'to ask the clubs that use those grounds'.

Time to fire off some e-mails to the local clubs and see if they're happy to have a referee around the ground over the summer. Hopefully they maintain the grounds otherwise... :(

I did get an offer to use a rugby pitch though. Again, in the next town over. At this rate I might just bite the bullet and go there instead. :dead:

Shame on that running club, you'd be welcome at mine but would be expected to join after a few taster sessions.

I understand that the running club won't tailor drills for you but the running drills warm ups and the sessions will improve your fitness and stamina.
Your endurance will improve and so will your general fitness. Also you will find other people to run with at different paces. I don't think any running club will do agility training. The option for that is buy yourselve some cones and find a park

Bought some cones today. :)

Turns out one of the local clubs doesn't own their ground but it is part of the communities recreation area, so they've said it shouldn't be an issue for me to train there. So, I may just have found a pitch to train on now. All good. :smoke:
