    Ex Pros becoming referees

If it was such a great idea then they would be lining up to do it. Wouldn't they want to "fix" refereeing to get the game sorted out? They know it's a **** job, they know that they treated referees terribly and that they would cope heaps of abuse and don't want to do it.

    France vs England

From someone who isn't English, some of you need to have a look at yourselves with the discussion in this thread.

    Pre match chat with teams

I don't say anything special in 99% if my games, just your call, have a good one. If I know that it's a high-level game between rivals that might have a bit of extra emotion in it, I will say something to the captains to the effect of "I know it's likely to be a bit spirited today, if you hear...

    Commentator effect

A couple of the refs that I worked with played in the lower levels of a club that was in the premier division I refereed. Whenever there was some big incident in a game they would always let me know what the feedback was like in the group chat. There was one incident where a player lost it and...

    Junior/Youth Safeguarding report

Even if it isn't a safeguarding issue, the coach sounds like a dick and should probably be moved on. Maybe this will be a push out the door for them.

    penalties and diving simultaneously

I always think of a scenario where an attacker has their shirt pulled, clear penalty, the attacker screams and rolls around on the ground like they've been shot holding their shin. You would award the penalty for the shirt pull and then call the attacker over afterwards once they make their...

    penalties and diving simultaneously

You can always award the penalty and show them a card for simulation, you will have an interesting conversation afterwards.

    Attempting to kick an Opponent

And there is a difference between trying to trip a player and trying to kick someone. A trip would be a foul and possible caution depending on the circumstances. A kick is more likely to be violent conduct and a red.

    Brisbane Roar vs Sydney DOGSO

Cheers for the input everyone. It was difficult for me to look at this without worrying I was biased one way or overcomplicating my thinking. You've helped me understand that I was correct in my final opinion.

Can you call the A-League elite? ;)

    Brisbane Roar vs Sydney DOGSO

I'd be interested in opinions here regarding this incident. Starts at about 2:35 in the highlights video. Disclaimer: I'm a Sydney fan, so I am able to recognise my own bias here. I can see both sides of the argument as to whether this should be DOGSO or not. Thinking about distance...

Leaving the field at nearest point

Trying to get players to leave quickly just creates more drama than is needed. If the referee stops their watch why does it matter if a player takes 5 minutes to get off the field?

    Patrol path

And pay attention to the game and the players in it. In one of my games recently I knew that one team's left winger was fast and skilful and liked to take the defender on going wide so I knew that I needed to be wide to watch him try and beat the attacker and be sure that I was in a position to...

And something I like to annoy people with, if you want to be in better positions, you need to get fitter.

    Patrol path

If you have good assistants you need to empower and trust them to make decisions. You may be drifting central more because you feel that you need to be closer to play and make all the decisions.
