Is this DOGSO?

The Referee Store
I'm going to sit on the fence !

1st watch I didn't think it was obvious the attacker would get there before the GK
2nd watch I think he probably would have, albeit closed down by the GK

Orange !!

Referees should consider the following circumstances when deciding whether
to send off a player for denying a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity:
• the distance between the offence and the goal
• the likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
• the direction of the play
• the location and number of defenders
• the offence which denies an opponent an obvious goalscoring opportunity
may be an offence that incurs a direct free kick or an indirect free kick

How many of the above criteria does the action meet?

Distance - close enough to goal for a shot on goal
Ball control - under the attacker's control
Direction of play - towards goal
Location and number of defenders - 2 outfield and a goalkeeper. 2nd outfield player would have had chance to block run?
Offence - incurred a direct free kick

On balance and consideration of the criteria - this is an OGSO

Just shorten it by saying the 4Ds

Red for me, the keeper isn't getting there first. Debuchy is at full pelt when fouled whereas the keeper hasn't even started moving to his right.

My first though on this was definitely DOGSO but then thought it was yellow on a second replay.

Watched it a couple more times and think it was DOGSO. The defender was not looking at the ball when he made the tackle and at the time of the tackle the attacker had the ball fully under control and was about to be in the area for a good shooting opportunity.

@Brian Hamilton @Mpaima Israel With regards to the abbreviations, being a new ref myself it definitely helps to see it written out and explained fully. I'd have had no clue what you meant by the 4 D's haha :)

At 00:43 in the video, The attacker (Alexis Sanchez) loses control of the ball then the player fouls him. There is no way he would have gotten to the ball before the keeper.

Thanks for your advice however if I say 4Ds how does that help educate less experienced referees? It is better to go into detail to explain, then they can comprehend the reasoning behind a decision, not just a mnemonic or abbreviation
That is correct!

Clear dogso for me

Keeper isn't even moving. Attacker would be heading towards goal. Ball under control. Within box, at a narrow angle. Got to be dogso

It's a dogso for me. Very lucky boy to stay on the pitch.

Sanchez is running at speed with the ball when he is unceremoniously fouled. The foul removes Sanchez speed and makes it appear more difficult to be sure he would have got to the ball first before the keeper. I believe he would have if he wasn't fouled. Hence the dogso.

This is one of those incidents which genuinely shows how hard refereeing can be. I thought red, can 100% see why others chose caution.

Sometimes there are no absolutes.
