As we approached the start of the new season, the Heavy Woollen District Referees Association held their annual Development Evening on Monday July 25. This event was open to all referees of all levels, as well as members and non-members of Referees Associations across the County.

We had a new venue this season and kicked off at 7pm at Ingfield Stadium, home of Ossett Town FC. Ossett Town play in the Evostik North.

As with each of our previous Development Evenings, the emphasis was on practical training designed to help improve your game. This year’s topics and tutors were as follows

· Field of play inspection – Joe Goodwin (Level 3 Referee and FA Referee Tutor)
· Penalty kicks – from the whistle to the kick – Ken Haycock (Level 3 Referee, FA Referee Tutor and former WRCFA County Training Officer)
· Controlling players at attacking free kicks around the penalty area – James Bell (Level 3 Referee, FA Referee Tutor and RDO at Sheffield FA)
· Coping with and controlling interference from the touchlines – Mark Reeves (Level 4 Referee, FA Referee Tutor working for Manchester FA)

The attendance was 25-30 out of the 300 invited (last Friday). We were all finished by 9pm and then retired to the bar for a well earned beer.

Checked out two of the three sessions they shared.

Well run, good information in them. No question!
